(w/permission of student & his father) This is the most compelling #pascalsTriangle I've seen by a student-1st grader in Stanford #mathCircle clearly showed how quickly the numbers grow; it's one thing to write 210 or 252 but this shows it! Train station to high rise! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

We had #mathisfun in Chapel Hill #mathcircle further exploring Spaghetti/Pizza/Watermelon Numbers considering underlying patterns. I gave a hint for next time to use #pascalsTriangle as a base and use the idea of "running totals" to see if they find these (in Bernoulli's Triangle) #mtbos #iteachmath

I get such engaged, creative, inspired/inspiring Ss! As part of hw Stanford #mathCircle students experimented w/ #pascalsTriangle w/an element of chance; one 1st grader had a clever idea of observing based on #chanceMusic! Goats bleating, cars passing, ... were chance variables! #mtbos #iteachmath

My 1st & 2nd grade students at Stanford #mathCircle are submitting cool artful #pascalsTriangle examples. For our next class I'm thinking of introducing idea of prime numbers without multiplication(there's SO much to do w/addition that I don't use mult. till 3rd grade)! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

It's amazing how much #mathisfun we did in the quarter just past at @stanforduniversity.bsky.social #mathCircle for 1st and 2nd graders! Topics include #pascalsTriangle, Bernoulli's Triangle, prime numbers (w/o multiplication!), upper bounds, Moser's Circle Problem, induction,... #mtbos #iteachmath

Lots of #mathisfun in day 2 of 2 of #mathcamp today at @nashermuseum.bsky.social at Duke. We looked at divisiblty rules, spaghetti/pizza/watermelon/hyperwatermelon numbers, theory vs practice, Doomsday Rule/clndr math, #PascalsTriangle & more,+ explored #mathAndArt in photography #mtbos #iteachmath

The first 2 of 4 #mathcircle class 2 of winter quarter grades 1&2 at Stanford Univ. went great. After looking over excellent, creative #pascalsTriangle work of students I intro without multiplication (but w/ skip-counting) idea of prime numbers and students got it! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

Sometimes when we wait till high school/college/later to learn a math concept, it seems needlessly complex. I love how this 1st grader nicely showed why nCk = nC(n-k) -- e.g., 5 choose 3 = 5 choose 2, via mirror. And she made an artful #pascalsTriangle for #halloween! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

I love enthusiasm/focus/math-curiosity/smarts of 1st & 2nd graders in my math circles. Today winter quarter at Stanford #mathCircle begins - I have I think 75-80 students divided into 2 sections Tuesdays & 2 Wednesdays. We start with introductions and #PascalsTriangle. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

Our younger students looked at counting number of gifts in #theTwelveDaysofChristmas; our older ones in "50 Days of Linear Equations". There's fun exploratory math for all levels and cool patterns to be found including the hockeystick pattern in #pascalsTriangle . #mtbos #mathisfun #happyHolidays

Wow, a 2nd grader in Stanford #mathCircle made such a clever artistic set of not just one #pascalTriangle but several in a beautifully drawn vending machine! Not only did he draw it but also lovely closeups! He was the only one to make a probabilistic #pascalsTriangle. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

(picture below fr morning session w/mainly 5th/6th graders) I just had 2nd #mathisfun session @americanmensa.bsky.social
#MensaAG2025Chicago #MensaAG #Mensa - mostly 3rd-5th graders. We looked at #Pingala / #PascalsTriangle, finding Triangle Numbers incl general case of nth, etal #mtbos #iteachmath

I loved working w/ mainly 5th/6th graders sharing #mathisfun at @americanmensa.bsky.social
#MensaAG2025Chicago #MensaAG #Mensa. Lots of topics-sevenths as decimals, spaghetti/pizza/watermelon/hyperwatermelon numbers, partitions, fwd differences, #Pingala / #PascalsTriangle, etal #mtbos #iteachmath

I'm excited to continue with my Stanford 1st/2nd grade #mathCircle students this week exploring Spaghetti, Pizza, and Watermelon Numbers-how many pieces w/straight cuts can we make? I'll introduce #bernoullisTriangle and see what patterns students find. #mathisfun #mtbos #iteachmath #pascalsTriangle

After covering LCM/GCD, palindromic numbers, #PascalsTriangle, and more, students gave presentations for their parents to wrap up an excellent week of #STEMCamp at #NCSSM including the best presentation on constructions I’ve seen! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

Blaise Pascal revolutionized mathematics with probability theory and created an early calculator. His "triangle" remains fundamental in combinatorics.
