We were playing Proset at Mathcamp in 2011, which seems to be the year that Socks came out - I certainly got the impression that it had been around previous summers. Mathieu Guay-Paquet made the cards (with this dot design) and published it in 2012 as Zero Sumz boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/12...
Zero sumZ
Abstract card game where you collect sets of three or more cards. Each card contains one to six abstract shapes, such as a green circle or a blue triangle. A set is called a "zero sum" if ...

I have talked to Germans who had their social networks seeded by the Studienstiftung or the SchülerAkademie CdE, but that seems more like the MOP/Mathcamp/CTY thing than the Caltech/MIT thing.

Several of our teachers enjoyed 2 1/2 days of math teachers’ summer camp at NCCAT nccat.org in the mountains of N.Carolina. We explored w/other elementary through college teachers topics like ‘folding fractions’, equitably slicing bread, AI, & more - w/ good food & better company. #mathcamp #mtbos

We're going to explore binary search today in my rising 3rd grade Art of Problem Solving camp after students explore these "sum pyramids". #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun #mathCamp #STEMcamp

For decades I've been teaching at Canada/USA Mathcamp, a summer math program for some wonderful high school students. This year I decided that I would finally talk about modular forms. In the past I'd avoided this topic because the background seemed daunting for a Mathcamp class.

In my 3rd grade AoPS #mathcamp we'll consider cool ways of configure locks. But first we'll warmup with an algebraic problem inspired by an NCTM article “Experience First, Formalize Later” by Sarah Stecher, Luke Wilcox, and Lindsey Gallas doi.org/10.5951/MTLT.2022.0178. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

Lots of #mathisfun in day 2 of 2 of #mathcamp today at @nashermuseum.bsky.social at Duke. We looked at divisiblty rules, spaghetti/pizza/watermelon/hyperwatermelon numbers, theory vs practice, Doomsday Rule/clndr math, #PascalsTriangle & more,+ explored #mathAndArt in photography #mtbos #iteachmath

Annette Rouleau of #JRMF jrmf.org is leading a cool session at the math teachers’ #mathcamp at NCCAT and has a cool way to explain Frobenius Coin Problem I share with my students! She had folks throw pretend darts and asked what sums we can make. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

This is about as hard-to-deny as a nontrivial reading can be, right? I'm feeling good about presenting it to mathcamp kids tomorrow as probably tracking real facts about the poem's (implicit or explicit) design

Fun day of #mathcamp at #NCCAT - I loved revisiting jrmf.org math games&have a great idea-integrate into upcoming school kickoff party @trianglemath.bsky.social ? We had fun w/tatami mat arrangements & estimating. Nice dinner, great company, campfire, then games well past midnight #mtbos #iteachmath

I always felt that Poisson summation was prohibitive from a Mathcamp point of view, especially since in a Mathcamp class I'd want to emphasize examples.

But it turns out that you can avoid Poisson summation, and this convinced me that a Mathcamp class could work.

I meant something not *that* much broader, thinking of social circles I knew that were seeded by people living in the same dorm at Caltech or MIT. MOP and Mathcamp and CTY social circles are also relevant but seem less significant and sticky than spending years in a dorm with people at university.

I'm excited a 2-week daily for 1 1/2 hour (with 1/4 hour warmup for those who can come early) #mathcamp is starting tonight. I'll be working virtually with a class designed for rising 3rd graders. We'll have a lot of #mathisfun ! Today we look at the pigpen cipher etal #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

The topics in our #mathcamp led to stimulating explorations and discussions, planting seeds for ways to share in our classrooms. I renewed cherished contacts and made additional ones. Great & productive time! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun #mathcamp

I found a nice kitchen store in small downtown Sylva, NC, Wildkitchen Supply. They offer cooking classes; I spoke to the owner Julie Jones and she’s potentially interested in my offering a #WFPB #vegan food/nutrition class like fflclasses.org when I’m back for another #iteachmath #mathcamp #mtbos !

What a majestic ride along the #blueRidgeParkway from my #iteachmath #mathcamp at WCU enroute ti Asheville. The Parkway was closed at a certain point so I drove through the countryside passing falls and a mountain lake, Lake Logan.
