One of the assignments due this week in my level 5 class is to carefully demonstrate the powers of 2 starting with 2 to the first through 1K and then deducing 2 to the 0th and 2 to the first few negative integers. I love how well this student has illustrated the powers of 2! #mtbos #iteachmath

I read that Honeypatch has a longer shelf life than Honeynut (winter squashes don't last at
my home - so easy to just pressure cook); it is sweeter but from what I read I likely will prefer
the nutty flavors of Robin's Koginut. Lots of good choices! #organic #wfpb #vegan

I love winter squash and made a new discovery (from Row 7 who also hybridized Sweet Garleek!), #organic Honeypatch Squash www.row7seeds.com/products/hon... ! I found this today at Whole Foods Market. I am a big fan of Robin's Koginut (hey, also by Row 7!) and Honeynut, and can't wait to try this!

I designed a #mathisfun challenge question for my level 3 students. We studied rectilinear shapes last week and I hope they'll use what we learned to easily be able to find the area and perimeter of these shapes and to find the optimal area for the bounding rectangle's perimeter. #mtbos #iteachmath

So much #mathisfun today. In level 2 after a coin problem we explored inequalities. In level 5 we counted polyominoes and considered integer division. We looked at a surprisingly easy AMC12 #mathTest problem and considered ratios in algebra. We excerpted a few #mathical books too #mtbos #iteachmath

#citrus! I can’t believe I found very early season mandarins (they didn’t know the variety, alas) at @weaverstreetmarket.bsky.social this evening! Not #organic unfort. I cut a few soon after getting home - pretty sweet and juicy! They also have a non-local RazzMatazz® Muscadine not fr Union Grove.

I loved Rebecca Lazier’s approx 60m ‘Noli Timere’ (program: live.arts.ncsu.edu/noli-timere-...) at NCSU - dancing in nets was visually stunning & must have been very difficult. Dancers were accompanied by French Canadian cellist Jorane who composed and played solo incl gorgeous ethereal vocals. Wow!

I cooked a small 'Badger Flame' #organic beet as soon as I got home (8m pressure cook then lemon juice and dash of salt). It's good though I've had tastier golden beets. I look fwd to more tasting! According to onwisconsin.uwalumni.com/the-badger-f... it is quite good raw and I'll have to try that!

These ‘Badger Flame’ #organic beets at Durham Coop look great! And I’ve never seen such small broccoli florets - I bet these are really good. The coop also has an unbelievable deal on #vegan Dr Bronner’s soap cardboard box refill - $11 for 32 ounces!

Today in Chapel Hill #mathCircle we played with coins and looked for #mathisfun patterns in, for example, counting ways to make $1 with quarters, dimes, and nickels - and, for homework, pennies. As we move toward a cashless society, some kids are missing out of math with coins. #mtbos #iteachmath

In level 3 @trianglemath.bsky.social we started w/ a #mathisfun challenge re: chopping carrots. Coincidentally one student had a carrot shirt on. After looking at rectilinear shapes we ended with #mathGame I See 10! A parent kindly gifted me nice flowers from a local farm! #mtbos #iteachmath

I loved working with my Stanford #mathCircle 1st and 2nd graders on counting ways to make change and subtracting 3s and 5s from 20, so am using these problems for my UNC Chapel Hill #mathCircle 1st-3rd graders this Saturday - should be #mathisfun! I get such great students! #mtbos #iteachmath
