Nuremberg - well worth viewing, even at 2hr 28mins😳
Clever editing, inserting contemporary newsreels with the film
A few awful minutes of newsreels from the camps. More, and more horrific, than I have ever seen - but I think I’ve probably deliberately avoided them.
Russell Crowe is very good

He definitely has a face right out of propaganda newsreels of the 3rd Reich, don't you think?

I know people aren’t actually going to see the Melania documentary, but here are some tips if you are forced to for some reason.

Today, I appointed Mila Oiva (University of Turku, Finland) to a Professorship in Digital Humanities at FAU, focusing on images and objects.

She studies audiovisual heritage, especially historical newsreels (e.g., Soviet Novosti Dnya and Estonian newsreels).

Welcome to FAU, Mila.

Well, ICE murdered yet another inoffensive person in Minneapolis. Six shots delivered by 2 of them.

It really is like old newsreels of SS killing people publicly.

It seems that behaviour is waking up Americans. At fucking last.

JD VANCE heading to Minnesota to:

Maybe in deranged content, but not presentation. The newsreels I've seen of Hitler are of a raving lunatic, not someone who is fighting to remain conscious and in the room.

His Britain only ever appeared in Pathe newsreels and Ealing comedies. It was never real.

Having WWII newsreels like Victory at Sea brought the horror of wars home at 5/6 yo., hearing stories of my great-grandfather and uncle's deaths in the mill, and my military experience, plus all the tragedies mentioned earlier in this thread underscore the fragile nature of life.

Media Monopoly: The Nazi state controlled all forms of media—radio, newsreels, and newspapers—ensuring that citizens were constantly exposed to idolized images of Hitler.

America 2026. We're used to only seeing such things on old black and white newsreels.
Monsters.
Someone sent me this video of Trump’s goons in action today in the Twin Cities. The audio is disturbing.

Those arrogant, strutting , imperious bastards I saw in newsreels believed they were omnipotent

The Gestapo and SS were hanged with piano wire

History will repeat itself

They say I was in 500 films, everything but the newsreels."

British Pathé newsreels are a great teaching resource, with an easy-to-use database. Short lengths make them ideal for viewing and analysing in class, esp. for history students not used to working with film.

Fabulous shot of a Sudanese woman front and centre here, too, at :18 seconds. 🇸🇩🇸🇸🗃️🎥
🇸🇩 70 years ago today Sudan gained its independence from Britain and Egypt. May the coming years be characterised by the hope the Sudanese originally had for their independence in 1956.

Trump regime: [posts 1930s-style newsreels of a fully fascist USA]

the NYT: the Trump administration had a very merry Christmas indeed! Hohoho!
The Trump administration celebrated Christmas on Thursday by posting a series of religious messages from official government accounts, using language that drew criticism from those who pointed to America's separation of church and state.
Trump Administration Emphasizes Religion in Official Christmas Messages
Government officials have traditionally steered clear of such overtly religious language, as the Constitution prohibits the establishment of an official state religion.

Actually I believe this one. He legitimately wants to build a new battleship. He thinks they’re cool cause he’s a 1940s baby and probably grew up watching old WW2 newsreels and doesn’t know how horribly outdated battleships are. He’ll probably suggest bringing back the cavalry charge next

I'm my 90-year-old grandmother's caregiver. She was born on a South Dakota farm during the Dust Bowl in 1935 and remembers the horrors of WWII from newsreels & radio broadcasts. Her reaction to tonight's presidential address?

"This Nazi windbag has lost his marbles. He's gaslighting Americans."

Force movie theaters to show newsreels before the main picture so that everyone can be scared by the trauma of the rise of American fascism before they see Moana 2

“The Film Fan”, directed by Bob Clampett, was released on this day in 1939.

Porky disobeys his mother as he goes to a “kids admitted free” screening at a movie theater. Plenty of spoofs related to the classic movie going experience from newsreels to trailers.
