The modern right is following exactly the 19th century model: first, criminalize (see City of Grants Pass v. Johnson), which destabilizes people experiencing homelessness as each municipality forces them out; then, exploit economically. 150 years ago, it was "the tramp problem" and "work houses."
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

EVERY Ontario municipality should do this. Maybe some municipalities, and maybe a new provincial government, can learn to feel shame again. And maybe we could open a new chapter on designing "livable cities" again.
The Region should keep them up and regularly publish data on how fast cars are going and how different speeds are from when the cameras generated fines for drivers who broke the law.
