1) Interesting study in the New England Journal of Medicine.

1% to 3% of patients with multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel disease were likely misdiagnosed as they actually had a monogenic rare disease.

It’s POTS Awareness Day!

People with POTS are often misdiagnosed with “anxiety”.

It can take 7-10 years to get a proper diagnosis.

I spent years fainting and sustaining severe injuries before a doctor finally figured it out.

Why are so many families in the Lehigh Valley losing custody of their children? Dozens of people claim their children had been misdiagnosed as victims of abuse. Many pointed to a single pediatrician, whose alleged mistakes, they said, had shattered their lives. nyti.ms/4qz4FcH

Many of the signs of perimenopause can also be symptoms of other conditions, and some of these get increasingly dangerous if they’re misdiagnosed
Everything is perimenopause now – but what if it’s not?

Update 2:
They misdiagnosed the issue (It turns out I was correct in my initial assumption) and they‘ll take even longer to fix it.
Not even a new estimate.

If surgery is not performed within 24 to 48 hours of symptom onset of cauda equina syndrome, patients can suffer irreversible spinal damage. But symptoms are often misdiagnosed or dismissed in possible cases of negligence, experts have warned.

Medical negligence meant that doctors failed to diagnose Toni-Claire Miller’s back pain as cauda equina syndrome. She wants increased awareness of the condition

Definitely not economics. Urine samples are taken from kids all the time, especially for things like UTIs. My former stepdaughter was misdiagnosed for years despite known microhematuria because her ped didn't listen to the patient mother with a known family history

And I've posted articles fleshing out these bullet points fairly often on my account. I've experienced a lot of these, BTW. #ADHDWomen

You know that feeling of waiting for the test results (waiting + waiting because it feels like forever even if it's just a few days)? Then getting the notification from the portal, tapping + holding your breath while the results page loads?

turns out, for the last 12 years I've been misdiagnosed
And so I anchored — I anchored on the first diagnosis I received. Even though that diagnosis was wrong. I'm sharing this experience not for sympathy or attention, but in the hope that it may be a useful cautionary tale. Do not make my mistake.

A cracked flexplate can cause various noises, including a knocking, rattling, ticking, or grinding sound, particularly from the bell housing area at idle. These sounds can be misdiagnosed as engine problems like bad rod bearings. Other symptoms include vibrations and a loss of power.

Paper says the opposite: rare genetic versions of disease are being misdiagnosed as commoner forms of the disease - a finding which is way less surprising.

This is in keeping with the whole idea of Personalized Medicine, which had a moment ~2 decades ago, then stopped being cool for some reason.

It's affected my entire nervous system. I literally have nerve damage from celiacs. People think it's just "a food allergy." It's not, it's an autoimmune disease. If you don't stop eating gluten, your body keeps attacking itself. For me I was misdiagnosed with ulcerative colitis for about 30 years.
