#metronidazole
smh

That said, I've found many FDA black box warnings to be not very helpful. For example, this one on metronidazole (good thing we aren't prescribing it to mice/rats):

No warm compresses, but they did finally get her on metronidazole. If the prescription doesn’t take care of it, they are recommending lancing under anesthesia. I’ve been using Vaseline and 3x abx when she lets me to give her a tiny bit of relief

Can metronidazole be used for purulent wounds? #metronidazole #woundhealing #anaerobicbacteria

My rosacea also isn’t the standard flushed cheeks with bumps. It’s dry patches, mostly around my hairline & eyes. This year I also have a patch on the side of my chin & yesterday dry patches showed up in my smile lines. It’s so annoying lol. The Dr gave metronidazole gel, which also dries the skin

She's already been to A&E this morning. She's got metronidazole and amoxicillin. But she doesn't look right at all.

I'd ended up on Amoxicillin and Metronidazole after a severe dental abscess which resulted in a hospital visit as the nurses @ the walk-in centre mistakenly thought I had peri-orbital cellulitis.
An entirely forgiveable mistake.
I'd had such serious swelling under my eye I could barely see out of it

My memory is a bit hazy this year after foolishly getting on the beer the majority of 2025 like I haven't in a long time...
However my supposed fibromyalgia is much better than it was previously.
I've also had a double course of Amoxicillin & Metronidazole, which I believe preceded the improvement?🤷🏻‍♂️

Update on Luna. Good news is that her stool is starting to solidify, and vet gave metronidazole and a fiber-heavy diet to help. Bad news is the bleeding is from an abscess, and she didn’t let them fully express it. Hopefully prescripts will help, but may need lancing later.
Day 142. Luna has been having a few rough days (lots of diarrhea, licking until butt bleeds - no parasites, and vet was pretty unhelpful, so advice would be welcomed). She thinks cones are the devil’s devices. Send her lots of love, please. #UglyDogs

oh hey if you haven’t tried azelaic acid for rosacea give it a shot

it can be tricky getting a prescription covered, BUT they do sell a 10% formula OTC and even that strength is working wonders for me

it’s so much better than metronidazole which made my face burn

There's so many things that could cause it, but I'm surprised your vet didn't prescribe metronidazole or Cerenia to give her poor GI tract a rest. Having that much diarrhea and licking isn't normal
December 8, 2025 at 12:07 AM
Do you have snow? Dogs often eat snow and get GI bacterial overgrowth, or bunny poop is easier to find and reach. Get yourself some metronidazole, and consider a different vet.

The butt eill be fine, just maybe dome wsrm water then warm ointment. Not sure whst you had in mind in terms of bandages...
The vet did you a disserve not giving you flagyl(metronidazole) but since she is now essentially empty, don't pay for an evet. Just give her system a rest, more broth than rice
December 7, 2025 at 9:32 PM
Our vet was not very concerned and they seemed slightly annoyed that I wanted to drop off a sample. We didn’t discuss an actual appointment, though, so perhaps that’s why they didn’t give the metronidazole? I didn’t bring Luna, to clarify
December 7, 2025 at 5:36 PM
That's a good vet.
Leaving a dog to have diarrhea over a weekend is 🤔
They should have given Luna metronidazole- I keep it on hand all the time.
December 7, 2025 at 5:27 PM
She likely needs the metronidazole (flagyl), which would control the overgrowth of bacteria in her gut. It is widely used, so it is curious they didn't give you any. For dogs and people, it is Rx, but it is also sold OTC for fish (a lot if antibiotics are).
How did this start?
December 7, 2025 at 4:58 PM
Did the vet prescribe anything? Sahara is on a 5 day course of metronidazole. As well as feeding ground meat and white rice boiled together. More rice than meat to start.

I know i was spoiled by having vet tech sister. That metronidazole for middle of the night after eating something (old sandwich, deer poop...) at the park the day before and completely ignoring tje "what are you eating! Drop it"! Is a welcome pill to have 😀🤣😂🐕
