maybe we should just get rid of copyright, liquidate all these gigantic megacorps and billionaires, and give the money to everyone as UBI. artists might be better off that way, and everyone else would be too

Yeah, you can imagine ancient villages that organize themselves into tiny megacorps that would compete and do stuff like have mergers and hostile takeovers and then suddenly there's a city-state equivalent. Like how rome formed from a bunch of villages.

You best start believing in cyberpunk dystopias, Miss Turner... you're in one!

(At least Shadowrun had magic to go with the dragons, demons and global megacorps that want to bleed you dry but will still keep your twitching corpse wet when you die so you can still consume connnnteeeent)

Fool proof!

Sadly these megacorps are more likely to let it burn as a tax writeoff

[Still shit at names. So Cinder Sol is born. Entirely because I liked the fiery hair color.

They're a street rat from Neon. Grew up alone (and liked it that way!) stealing to survive. Got a bit of a record, but managed to get into running whatever for the megacorps.

They're good at stealth--

If some 80s SF author put in their cyberpunk novel that one of the megacorps started out as a mail order movie rental service, they'd be laughed out of the room.

Of all of the SV or SV-adjacent megacorps wandering around nowadays, Amazon feels the most fixable. Facebook and Twitter should be blasted into the sun.

Who thought the artistic vision of what the future could turn into with megacorps would be viewed as a blueprint by the tech nerds and finance bros?

Volvemos a la época de las grandes megacorps de la Standard Oil.

Damn we got the megacorps part of cyberpunk in our lifetime
December 5, 2025 at 1:10 PM
Love the 'less hopeless cyberpunk' feel you gave them with their megacorps acting like a local government with its workers as shareholders. They still fight and such, but you can plausibly imagine how things would be before they became industrial due to that detail.

I wish the public acceptance of the anime and reception of the game turning around meant people actually exploring other cyberpunk media. Shadowrun has cyberpunk AND Illuminati dragons, shamanism, elves/orcs/dwarfs and the same opressive megacorps and desperately craves your attention.😞

vaguely remember coming up with a near future cyberpunk dystopia setting for a tabletop rpg which had DAMN as one of the megacorps: Disney Amazon Marvel Netflix

I like your katamari analogy but also, it makes me more sympathetic to megacorps, because who can resist "must grow" with a katamari.
December 5, 2025 at 6:00 AM
look the thing is if you want a cyberpunk future then you have to accept the megacorps

you can't have one without the other!

megacorps: *underpay their workers, deliver worse products for more money, nickel-and-dime everyone for access to entertainment, buy up all the housing to drive the prices up*
consumers: *have no money*
megacorps: why won't you spend money on our products

The Omnicom-IPG merger continues to be a nightmare. 4k people laid off, more are 1000% coming.
Disgusting
Megacorps are killing people and all they can think about is how they can earn more money for a few years before they bankrupt the entire company and fuck over everyone while walking away np

Break up these megacorps.
December 4, 2025 at 10:36 PM
Really, let this sink in:

Even the accursed group of Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta and Tiktok, are paying out niche artists better than Spotify. Spotify is scummier than the 21st century poster children of market-abusing megacorps. I have made more money from them this year each than Spotify.

megacorps peddling hypersexualized, exocitizing images of trans women to sell their shitty products while the one trans woman you meet is just a friendly bartender who likes cars, misses her late husband, and who you only learn is trans if you become her friend? yeah that sounds about right

"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can’t take part"- Mario Savio

Cut yourself free from megacorps. Stop participating passively as they fuck us.

Now that I’m done with *some* of AC4A’s jank, I gotta be honest the atmosphere and story are honestly kinda a great vibe.

Earth has been irradiated beyond all habitability after megacorps took rulership of earth but they still have that sickening squeaky clean presentation in the mission briefs.
