A quick re-intro for new friends 👊🏿

I'm a Black Brit writer/narrative designer/editor in:

Games (Windrush Tales; Tales of Kenzera; PlayStation; NDA x3)

Comics (Magic of Myths; Deadlier Than; Clockwork Watch etc)

Prose & film (TBA 👀)

Kids' books (Butterfly Books)

And do talks, teach and more 👋🏿
100% truth, sadly. And this is especially vital for children (and their parents), and young adults forming a pallette.

If I had an algorithm making recommendations during my late teens in the 90s, I likely would have missed *all* of Vertigo's classics and a large number of seminal indie books.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

My OAP cat every morning:

"I want food."

"No, not that wet food."

"Not that dry food."

"This wet food actually tastes good with the dry food."

"I want more food."

"Wait, you're trying to give me my eyedrops, fuck that."

(It's just me giving him more food from the can)

"Done now. Bugger off."

I'm not the only author I know who has a huge surfeit of ideas for books that we would love to write and send out into the world if only we had the time to write them.

Having a lot of uncomfortable feelings about being in this position, but I made this after encouragement from friends and would really appreciate it if you could give it a look/share ❤️

I know we berate experiencing life through our phones, but I'm at an age now where there are times where I wish I was able to capture and rewatch just one frozen memory from a moment, event or person that I've lost or don't fully remember.

That Gen X cynicism is an armour with many holes.

Bertine is spitting nothing but undiluted truth, here.

Ultimately, if you've worked on a game (especially when you have proof), you're totally within your rights to say you have.

Accreditation is games can be based on asinine, random and often petty factors. Your experience counts.
My controversial take is that if you didn't get credited on a game you have proof you've worked on, just list it on your CV.

I do with one. Never had any issues.

Not being credited still sucks but you don't need to be polite when they're not.

So it was prob a good thing I missed #AdventureX as I wouldn't be enjoying some crunchy & colourful antibiotics for a mystery infection working its way through my veins, potentially trying to get into a vital organ or two.

Hold on.

My antibiotics are blue and yellow.

Hope y'all have a great #AdventureX2025! Debated attending, but couldn't justify it given the expense vs my immediate need for new contracts (and let's face it, I'd only be adding to an army of writers there - many also looking for work).

As it turns out, I'm sick and in pain again, anyway, so...

Swear down, the mealy mouthed horseshit they'll use to explain this ("propping up the economy" "future proofing the country" "other nonsensical bullshit") will only be rivalled by the mealy mouthed horseshit that will follow when the AI bubble pops ("we couldn't get left behind" "the *economy*")

Ah, we're at that time of year where all the tiny little flies emerge from the dozens of plants and flowers in every room of my house.

Which means I now randomly swat at black dots in the corner of my vision, and have to carefully check my glass before I take a drink, in case of any suicide divers

For real.

When the AI bubble pops and brings about it a new and brutal recession that touches all but the 1%, we'll look back at images like this and wonder why we didn't pay heed of all the very obvious signs that Hell was in the final stages of its global takeover.
This mural has gone up in Kingston, ostensibly for Christmas but AI has ensured it's actually to celebrate the return of our dark lord Cthulhu

My friend in one of our WhatsApp groups has been telling us about stories from an old German fairytale book. It includes:

- The scissors man who cuts off your thumb if you don't stop fucking sucking it

- The cats who warned the girl about playing with matches (and... lol)

I'm OBSESSED, holy shit

I, too, harp for the bygone days where my only concerns were if I had enough pocket money to buy the Transformer toy I really wanted, if I could learn my times tables without getting caned by the headmaster, and wondering which racial epithet I'd hear next!
