okay wow, I just found that sometime in July this year, the libretro core for PS2 went from almost unusable to *really* good
it even supports supersampling down to native (something that PCSX2 is weirdly stubbornly against) so you can get a flawless vibe that's still way cleaner on modern screens

so it turns out someone has made a libretro library compatible with Unreal. i know a couple released projects have used similar or the same (new retro arcade neon, mainly) but it felt rlly clunky and obtuse.

I wish they'd make a libretro port of it, so I could use a greater variety of shaders but also overlays to make up for running games in 4:3 on a 16:9 screen.

i dont even have a problem using libretro cores just make a frontend that has its menus laid out like a regular pc application and not an insane sprawl of consoleized menuing that SUCKS
...im going back to the retroarch mines i realized n64 sucks on there.
omg i love bizhawk finally a multi system emulator that doesnt make me want to explode (yet)

I appreciate what it does, but a lot of its defaults aren't my thing, and Steam ROM Manager is veeeery tedious to deal with to get even parts of my library in Steam...

Oh I absolutely understand. I wasn't correcting out of support for either team, I just don't want the shit Libretro Team did to Near to be pinned on the wrong folks. The RA staff still need to be reevaluated as they've fucked up in their own way.

I fucked up and said they (Libretro) aren't behind Retroarch when I 100% meant RetroAchievements, but hopefully the included links helped get the point across beyond my egregious typo! My bad on the typo, but wanted to make sure the info was correct.
