That said, DWG1 runs super well on Deck even at 8W, but DWG3 chugs more.
The remasters *seem* to run well thru RPCS3 - at least in the case of the Ratchet and Sly games, they run better in PS3 emulation than on PS2 emulation. 🤷♀️
Defo CPU limited in cases, but understandable given the context.

Tales of has inadvertently made me just a bit more frustrated when playing a Musou game and the map's fail conditions are tied to a dumbass NPC that just REALLY HAS A DEATH WISH.
Seriously, DW Gundam has some obnoxiously spaced-out objs and the key NPC at one point literally died to a mook offscreen

Though I have maybe a hundred or so non-Steam titles, I rarely if ever have to diagnose those.
But the true horror is when it's an actual WINE bug, and not caused by Proton or DXVK:
That means having to deal with Wine's Bugzilla.
Damn you, Dynasty Warriors 6 and your "Dynamic Lights" setting.

Note to self, bluesky doesn't allow multiple pinneds like Fedi does.
Would'a been great to know that *before* pinning a stupid meme post and I can't find my original.
Eff it, XANAtion for lyfe.

When I think about how much time I'd spent on my Deck library, I think only like... Two games *needed* intervention (Batman AA's prefix weirdness, God Eater needs ntsync), only one game had a vanilla bug that needed fixing but was easy to do (Dead Rising 2), and only one game with vid issues (DD:DA)

But then again, I feel like crying into a pillow when I realize that Michaelsoft DIDN'T CHANGE THE ONBOARDING EXPERIENCE, like AT ALL?
On their FLAGSHIP "Xbox" handheld, you're still forced to link to a MS account on a portable, get bombarded with Office and Copilot ads, and still has all the bloat

It really makes me laugh when the discourse around the Xbox Asus ROG Xbox Ally Xbox X-for-Xbox always seems to come back around to
"This is for hardcore gamers who want to tinker and deal with Windows bullshit" and the Linux-based Steam Deck is the "one that just works".
Oh how far Michael's fallen

So uhhhhhh
i may have gone a bit more autistic than usual today by making a partial(?) emulator-only translation of the PS2 port of Die Hard Arcade, aka Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 26: Dynamite Deka.
I was only looking to get the prompts taken care of, but then the jpn subs stood out too so uh--

I get the feeling that by the time Payday 5 comes out and then gets canceled after its year-one roadmap, there will be a fourth skeleton crew still keeping Payday 2 afloat even after its life cycle was supposedly *actually* done for realsies pinky swear this time

So uh
EmuDeck's been very... Interesting? Not always for the right reasons?
I appreciate what it does, but a lot of its defaults aren't my thing, and Steam ROM Manager is veeeery tedious to deal with to get even parts of my library in Steam...
I dread adding the Libretro stuff in. Ugh.

Oh yeah, the only reason I did that was for God Eater. It's basically a file access benchmark game of sorts because of how unoptimized the ports (for 1&2) are.
It's also kinda really good? For a bootleg Monster Hunter-like anyways. And it has the most Go Shiina ass OST and it's so jarring but aaaaa

I can appreciate stock SteamOS allowing me to (at least temporarily) install some out-of-this-kernel-version modules, namely ntsync without needing to change distro entirely.
But with how, uh... Cludgy the process is after unlocking, clearly it wasn't made to be used this way exactly.

inb4 someone brings up Windows distros like Tiny11 or Ameliorated or some such:
Sure, opt for the blatently pirated hacks that can't take updates or breaks other expected dependencies so hard that SETTING UP WINE FROM SCRATCH IS EASIER.

I'll admit it's REALLY funny hearing people cite Windows as a pro over SteamOS for compatibility (even when that's like, 5% of games) while ignoring the complete dumpster fire of a UX it has at a time that people are revolting over having to upgrade to Wendies 11.

I have a lot of thoughts about the Steam Deck after a week of setting up emula--I mean playing games.
But the one at the forefront is how painfully mid its d-pad is. It does not do the retro games justice, despite having otherwise very responsive, low-latency, and comfortable controls.

R* support wasn't as combative as I'd thought they would be (prolly because I sent screenies of my Steam purchase history in the initial ticket), so I was able to get GTAIV to work again last night.
BUT
I bought the fucking game on Steam, I shouldn't NEED to verify with some other bullshit.

Anyways, today was mostly just putzing around. Tomorrow will be more putzing, but hopefully the mildly more productive kind? I at least wanna get saves syncing across, which means setting up Syncthing, and then finish getting my emulation stuff sorted.

Honestly it's shit like that which is why I made Nero in the first place.
Because fucking with environment variable bullshit is not fun.
Also turns out, I was using the wrong NVAPI related variable! It's not ENABLE_NVAPI, which is what I thought it was and was wondering WHY IS IT STILL ON???

Okay, note to self out loud:
The old TZFix still works, but using on non-NVIDIA is problematic because of implicit NVAPI, causing SpecialK to go into an aggressive loop before dying.
So adding PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI is necessary here.
Now I just have to cope with enabling my obsession even more...

A 512 Gig SD card is enough for my emulation, but a 512 Gig SSD is *not* enough for Deck games unfortunately. ;;
Could barely squeeze some non-Steam stuff in on the uSD, sitting at ~20GB free on the OS drive atm.

To clarify something I mentioned earlier mid-stream, I must regretfully inform I have made a grave error.
There was in fact no bundled eggbag in the Deck's case (or at least not my 512GB model)
