Every one of those questions was so important, but the part about them feeding library customer use data to an AI was just infuriating. SPL and KCLS protect that data from entities like ICE and they're just lifting it and feeding it to CLAUDE?? I'm so mad my head is going to explode.
November 15, 2025 at 6:16 AM
Oh, and why aren't you using KCLS data as well? KCLS is a bigger library system, and your customer base pulls from KCLS readers just as much as SPL readers. Is it because KCLS protects their user information better?

And if they decide that then KC should do the same thing KCLS does with Clyde Hill and other places that withdrew from the library system because they wanted a property tax cut

If you have access to Kanopy (a streaming service through some public libraries), watch Paragraph 175, a documentary chronicling the lives of gay men who were sent to concentration camps.

TIL that KCLS is the second-highest digital circulating library in the US (4th in the world) and I am genuinely curious how much of that circulation is romance audiobooks.

In addition, for my pals who have minimal dollars to their name, there's also the library! Get tons of audiobooks for $0! They're not yours forever, but free is free. Seattle Public Library and KCLS have a huge amount of audiobooks for your ears.
As a Libro.fm acolyte, it is my duty to inform you that audio that's purchased from your favorite indie bookseller sounds better and is also more emotionally fulfilling than the same audio purchased from a megacorp that's assisting the authoritarian federal regime.

Residents of two Seattle suburbs where median house price is ~$4M refuse to pay library tax (which is basically a small change.) Thank you #KCLS for shutting these a-holes out

Which is lovely as a non KC person anymore.

Don’t sleep on Libby (I am told the kids might say that). Most of these books are there and KCLS is a great resource.

It's there an equivalent with KCLS? Much better selection last I checked.

The future of renewable electricity is here.
85-97% of electricity in Denmark comes from renewable sources.
This will grow in the coming years, as new wind and solar plants are constructed.
Here's fine explanation about the role of mega heat pumps use in district heating.
