And the poverty component is really a bitch because it causes wealthy lgbts to exclude poor lgbts of all races in our imagemaking to the world and ourselves.

It's confusing, isn't it? I think of art photographers as artists — photographers who consider their imagemaking an art practice.

Good question, Dan. To me, an art photographer is a photographer who uses their imagemaking as an art practice. In short, an artist. Are you an artist? It's not always a "yes" when you ask that question of photographers. Does that make sense?

A pen and inkwash drawing from many ages ago. It's so hard to get this kind of loose feeling from digital. With robots taking over much of the digital imagemaking I feel like I need to get back into working with natural media. #penandink #rooster #humanart #drawing #handdrawn

I don't know if the $100k option is wishful thinking/imagemaking or if people really are impulsively donating that much, but ...

Visiting relative introduced gen AI imagemaking to my son, and for the sake of peace for the remaining few days they are here, I just frowned and didn't make a fuss, but jfc it pisses me off. 😠

CAST A DEADLY SPELL (1991) wallows in some unfortunately regressive 90s plotting & only loosely uses the great premise of a magic-casting culture in 1940s LA, but it's still fun for its stacked cast & playful pulp imagemaking. The pleasures of a shot like this are missing from modern genre fare.

As a model for over 15 years, let's look beyond the lens: modeling as silent storytelling. An expression, pose, light – all contribute to a narrative. What unspoken stories are most powerful in visual art/photography? 📸

AI bootlickers get so mad when you tell them that the imagemaking is based on theft

They start projecting scenarios in which you would use something that was ethically sourced, which at this point really doesn’t exist. Then they threaten you: use it or be left behind.
I do know AI is useful for some people. Great. I get that. But when someone says, “I don’t like it” and you say, “Fuck you, eat it all,” you’re not really making a case that it’s actually something the other person would in fact like if they just gave it a chance.

3/ It seems to me a sort of rebellion against the oppressive ubiquity of digital imagemaking, showing a desire to reconceive the intimate and priviliged interaction of the canvas and the eye.

Penny, for your thoughts: What is your relationship to imagemaking? Are you addicted to photography? Is it an obsession or just a hobby? I'm thinking about how we engage with our passions and am curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance for sharing.

And a lot of it was imagemaking and message discipline. Clinton’s rapid response war room, and presenting as a “country boy” (which he was, from birth) and presenting liberal policy in ways moderates could appreciate (eg, abortion rights as “not government’s business”).

“To survive the Canadian winter, one needs a body of brass, eyes of glass, and blood made of brandy.”

French explorer Louis-Armand de Lom d’Arce de Lahontan said this apparently in 1702.

CIVIL WAR: The simultaneous impulses to issue a state of the nation and create a hallucinatory allegory completely cancel each other out, and Garland’s self-conscious imagemaking has little feel for the madness this requires; some good setpieces but mostly shallow.
