From Radiance Films, which just got released on Blu-ray last month, is Tai Kato's 1965 film Blood of Revenge (明治侠客伝 三代目襲名). Tai Kato I was not familiar with until Radiance starting releasing his works and now this is like his 6th title (so far most have sold out of their LEs already).

After a first film launched at Tribeca in 2023, German Anna Roller presents Allegro Pastell at #Berlinale2026 #Panorama for Totem again. An adaptation that's probably not personal enough, and not really sexy either. The direction is too flat, the result remains sadly domestic.

For Jack Benny’s 39th birthday, here, again, is my piece on Jack’s film career. This got the biggest response of any of my Criterion articles. Best of all, it found its way to Jack’s grandson who liked it and showed it to his mother, Joan Benny, who had kind words about it.
An ethnographic film class was my entry into film. Transformative double semester class with the history and theory in the fall and production in the spring. It was taught by Irina Leimbacher so it was very experimental heavy. Best class of my undergraduate studies.
