I stayed at a hotel in Perryville, MO the night the EF5 tornado tore through Joplin. Someone had all SIX of the Star Wars movies (that were out at the time) as I had just bought a PS3 following the big Sony hack about a decade or so. Downloaded them, updated the software, put console back in box.

The storm that created the first EF5 tornado in 12 years on June 20 2025 also caused the derecho that hit northern Minnesota. This is a drone picture of Star Island on Cass Lake shot last weekend that shows trees felled by the derecho. You can see my assistant and me in the bottom right corner

There have only been two (E)F5s in October on record in the U.S., one in Iowa in '66 and the newly upgraded one in ND.
There has never been an EF5 in November in the U.S. on record.

And within 5 minutes, i already need to correct something: the asphalt car was empty, not full. My bad, not theirs. The grain cars were full (and still warranted the EF5 rating).

so since i wrote on here last: there was an ef5 tornado for the first time in over a decade, someone i graduated high school with died along with jane goodall and diane keaton, i got attacked by fellow swifties for critiquing the album, i got barricaded in a resident’s room at work, and it got cold

oh i know i was actually just watching a video talking about that - i think it was el reno 2013 that couldn't make an ef5 rating bc it didn't damage any structures that could prove it was an ef5, since it mostly hit rural areas despite the fact the winds were something like 290+??

Since the National Weather Service offices can upgrade older tornadoes to EF5 strength, I think the Mayfield 2021 tornado is now deserving of an upgrade.

Did you hear that they upgraded the Enderlin tornado to the ef5 (first in like 12 years)?? It had to have winds over 210 to throw one of those train cars as far as it did--
