Obviously, the biggest influence on this is Creepshow. When I shot Poppa and IFTD, I wanted to keep that sort of pulpy Bill Gaines horror feel that Creepshow utilized, so there's weird camerawork, and use of unmotivated lighting and cucoloris.

I was trying to create a film noir look with a cheap Neewer light I bought off Amazon. I should construct a cucoloris maybe. I’m not a very good subject and I know next to nothing about lighting

packing-know your scrims-Lowel edition. Pro tip—never use a Lowel hot light without the safety screen. Looks a lot like a scrim-which is used to reduce light. the safety screens protect from hot glass if a lamp blows. which can happen. been there/done that. Same with studio strobes.

The history of the term "light cookie" is actually really interesting. This comes from "cucoloris", which is an old film trick of literally cutting out objects made of plywood or other materials to block lights! The Wikipedia page is quite fun: en.wikipedia.org/wik...
