wonderful wetwalk : Bosham to Smugglers, West Sussex.
This coastal path spends much of each day under water, and the tide comes in fast, check tide-tables or get trapped. This path is always worth walking, when it’s there.

moored in mist - Bosham Channel, West Sussex.
The sea-mist hung low all day, the Chidham Peninsula in the distance fading in and out.

This is an excellent explanation and a fascinating ‘bridge’ between two worlds. If Harold’s Bosham hall in the Bayeux Tapestry illustrates a timber Saxon hall, as many of us believe, we can see that timber structures and decoration reflected stone constructions and polychrome, so why not vice versa?
In Anglo-Saxon architecture, Roman stone meets a timber way of thinking: stone becomes articulated into the Saxon timber-centric world view. I suppose, in this way, it is also a memory as well as a material. Here at All Saints', Earls Barton. 📸 my own.

Layers of history. The C14th crypt of Holy Trinity, Bosham (birth town of Harold Godwinson) has rib vaults made of Caen stone. Now a chapel it may have originally been a charnel house.

Did a bit for #Tryanuary * at the Anchor Bleu in Bosham, after a walk from Chichester

* Try new beers, pubs, breweries during January, when all could do with a bit of support (and the nuisances have disappeared out of pubs again)

This article refers to a tower at Bosham. I wasn’t aware of this discovery. The discovery of remains which seem to be associated with the Bosham hall – reported in 2025 – was most exciting. But where is this tower recorded?

Here’s one for @navalairhistory.com, and one I mention in the acknowledgements of MANEATER: as a teen, I worked in a restaurant in Bosham. Bit posh, Bosham. We had quite a few slebs who used to come in, but my favourite famous person was a nice older chap I didn’t even know was famous.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie
