First call snow map for this weekend's snowstorm, effective Friday 7pm to Sunday 1pm. Confidence is low. Most of Virginia could see up to 5 inches of snow, with a belt of 2 to 5 inches along and south of I-64 including Richmond. Heavier amounts are located in southwestern Virginia near Bristol, as well as southeastern Virginia including Hampton Roads and the Lower Eastern Shore. Gale-force winds near the developing low's center could produce white-out or blizzard conditions near the coast, as far inland as the Henrico-New Kent County line. Contrary to popular belief, blizzard conditions do not require a certain amount of snowfall - just sustained winds of 30 kts (35 mph) or higher and visibility of 1/4 mile or less for at least 3 hours.

NWS AKQ is being quite aggressive and also quite low confidence at the same time. They currently forecast 0.5" to 6" for #RVA through 7pm Saturday (about halfway through the event) with heavier amounts to the SW. Still feels a bit too soon to commit to numbers yet. #vawx
NWS Wakefield probabilistic snowfall range map through 7pm Saturday. Richmond is showing 0.5 to 6 inches, with slightly lower amounts to the southeast - Williamsburg, Franklin, Norfolk - and larger amounts (up to 8") to the southwest - Farmville, South Hill, Danville.

It's a Nor'easter / Miller B Storm. These are four different models varies on when the storm begins bombogenesis on the Atlantic Coast and how far the center of circulation is from the coast.

Here's what the models suggest for VA this weekend:

- GFS: Snow. Lots of it. Highest amts S of I-64. NoVA gets nothing.
- Euro: Light snow, mostly S of I-64. NoVA gets nothing.
- GDPS: Snow. Lots of it, not as much as GFS. N of I-64 gets nothing.
- ICON: Nothing.
- UKMET: Nothing.

So far, models are keeping next week’s storm system a bit too far east offshore to bring much snow to #RVA and areas west of I-95. In fact, so far the consensus is that Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, etc would see a moderate snow, maybe the lower eastern shore, not much elsewhere. #VAwx
