Sigh. Way to go, Santa Cruz, proud to be a UCSC slug forevs.

Meanwhile, despite resounding protest from residents, City of Oakland Council went with the (ICE) Flock due to pressure from the OPD.

Aw. Larry Polansky brought him to UCSC once and we all went out to dinner. Such a thorough and genuinely empirical thinker — someone who really wanted to understand fundamentals about perception, cultural influence, and the interaction of the two. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve been having that problem a lot the last few days, too. I have a very close friend who lives outside of Minneapolis. She is a veteran protester — practically lived at the UCSC library protesting apartheid one semester — and is out there regularly.

Trying to take advantage of living down the street road from a university and checking out their public programming. Timely that my first event at UCSC tonight is “Labor Against ICE!”

UCSC for grad school here—used to go for runs in the redwoods behind campus.

Makes me homesick! (First graduating class at UCSC). Recalling how droplets fell from the trees for days after the storm ended....

Alex (@crypticsea.bsky.social ) is a Santa Cruz local and has been up to UCSC to talk to the students. He has a very active feed here and I've not watched his chat with @ronscompvids.bsky.social 's yet, but I'm sure it's hilarious!
If you missed my interview with @crypticsea.bsky.social (the man behind Bridge Builder, Pontifex and Skate or Don't!), you should check it out! It's got some great insight into what it takes to make a cult gaming classic. #bridge

Hobbes said life is nasty. I think he meant Steven Miller. Hobbes said life is cruel. I think he meant Donald J. Trump. Thank you, UCSC, for my degree in political theory.

Yes! Read in Jack Schar’s American Political Thought in 1983 at UCSC.

I'd been wondering about how this came about and while I'm not a UCLA alum (I'm a UCSC alum), I was born in LA and lived in LA for about 17 years and went to the UCLA campus often for many reasons so this is a real disappointment.

Yeah, my office when I was in grad school at ucsc was literally the door next to the office of professor who runs the puma project.

Thank you UCSC for adding an idle charge to the EV chargers. I was actually able to get a spot today! (There used to be no idle charge so ppl left their cars plugged in and used the spots for general EV parking, now there’s an idle charge once the charging stops).

One of the best things about working at UCSC is that the campus food options are so mediocre that this sort of temptation never occurs.

Loved this focus on the UCSC team given how much I enjoyed the #SpenglerCup!

Lots of praise from coaches Gadowsky and Souza for our guy Eric Pohlkamp! And, really fun to hear PK talk about his experience in Davos.

#GoPios
A lot of talk about the U.S. Collegiate Selects' performance at the Spengler Cup , including chats with Penn State coach Guy Gadowsky, UNH coach Mike Souza, and Denver defenseman Eric Pohlkamp. Plus, catching up on the week ahead...

Hi Hedly, Thx for your story. Yes, Dr. Angela Davis is Professor Emerita at UCSC. More importantly to me is that she's vegan. A number of progressives are vegan. Naomi Klein for example. The concept is called 'intersectional,' which is to understand that the supremacist mentality includes speciesism

I’ve met Angela at UCSC when she chaired the history of human consciousness program, my girlfriend at the time was working on her PHD. She had a large fearsome looking dog that was actually very friendly and same can be said of her and we a great conversation about dogs.

What’s good for ecosystems can also be good for the economy 🌿🏠 Using Zillow home sales data, UCSC researchers found that Florida homes near mangrove forests experienced far smaller price declines after major hurricanes, making a strong case for more mangrove conservation: https://bit.ly/49ldMXO
