Greetings! I am an independent author & scholar who writes literary/slipstream, fantasy, & mystery fiction, and non-fiction related to archives & literature. Latest book is (the appropriately seasonal) Death at Hallowtide, a cosy mystery/fantasy set in Ireland.

One I really didn't expect to see in the wild in the UK! On a little bit of unloved/waste land, this is Datura stramonium, aka Angel's Trumpet, Thornapple or Jimsonweed; it's quite the hallucinogen. Growing wild behind it were thistles and a tomato plant(!)

A photograph of the variation of Datura stramonium with an all white flower. This flower belongs to a plant called either Jimson Weed, Thornapple, or the Devil's Trumpet. It is a member of the Nightshade family, and it is very poisonous. The similar Datura stramonium var. tatula has a flower with purple coloration.

I made a cool project for our local theater's annual fundraiser (people "vote" for the projects they like best with donations to the theater). This year was detective stories themed.
My Agatha Christie's poison garden project on display at our local theater. Six photos of flowers that I took are labeled with their common and scientific names and also the poison that comes from each plant which features in an Agatha Christie story. The photos are of nicotiana, foxglove, thornapple, peach, wood sorrel, and poppy.

The leaves are large, o)void, with undulating borders and nicely demarcated white veins. The fruit is attached to the thin main stem by a short recurved peduncle. 🌱 It’s been fascinating learning about the diversity of native solanacea we have in South Carolina. This thornapple (many other common names) has lavender night-blooming flowers and some seriously spiky seed pods.
