nostalgic for my art journey... images are from 2018, 2021, 2023, and 2024, each representing different styles i've used

i used to feel driven to 'have a style'. the advice is: 'it comes with practise'. i wonder if others see an artistic through-line in these pieces that i don't!!

“Intercession”

I had an Excisional Biopsy a couple of weeks ago. While being prepped I kept my mind off by drawing the first thing that came into my mind. “Please lord, not now, not yet. There is so much to do.”

There is a haunted intensity to the WIP I didn’t capture In the final so have both.

The bear is a fool. He fails to grasp the larger opportunity this conflict presents. I strike down humans naturally, as we are called to do on this night, but I do not neglect to kill any other living creature who crosses my path, from the chained-up dog cowering in its little house to a herd of deer frozen in fear at my might. I may only be half the creature I once was, but what teeth and claws I have left retain their expertise.
In this way, our company of the dead grows and grows. For we must outnumber not only the humans but the living animals, else they will turn upon us as soon as the human threat is eliminated. I see how they look at us, flee in fear. We are as much an enemy in their eyes as the humans ever were.
Not all, but enough of the others are sympathetic to my point of view and assist my plans. Our newly-turned soldiers are loyal to their makers. When the time is right, it is I who will rule and the bear who will take orders from me or be destroyed utterly, for I am as patient and sure as the sun rising in the morning.

The taxidermy’s displayed in small cases built into the wood paneling. It’s more hybrids like the swan-goat, only fun-sized: rabbits with ravens, voles with juncos, a fish with a squirrel. If I’d looked closer at the deer outside, would they have had salmony lips?

Forgot to post because I got a weird small sick afterward, but made it to the Lunar Faire for the first time this last weekend! Definitely want to go again! I got a $2 vertebrae for my stuff shelf and saw tons of cool people doing witchy things
