Currently using positron for package development and rstudio for analysis for this reason
January 14, 2026 at 5:43 AM
Unfortunately the absence of inline output in my QMD files might once again stop me from making the positron from Rstudio switch.

🛠️ The toolkit aims to teach a reproducible workflow including R + Quarto + Git + GitHub all within RStudio (and soon, Positron!).

I use positron and Rstudio. I use quarto notebooks. I use R. I have human rights that claude must recognize.

@andrew.heiss.phd gave a great presentation on getting more out of the #Positron IDE. Helpful both for experienced users and those #RStats folks just making the move from RStudio.
His blog post on resources he covered: www.andrewheiss.com/blog/2026/01...
Video should be posted on YouTube soon.

I tend to use RMD files so I don't worry too much about projects (probably my biggest divergence from standard R workflows). I copy one in that is a decent start, open the file in Rstudio and the folder in windsurf. I interact with the LLM using windsurf (ctrl+L opens cascade, the agentic coding).
January 13, 2026 at 1:51 AM
I haven't tried claude code but my preferred setup is to use windsurf + rstudio for agentic coding. I create a folder/directory, do a quick git init in it and copy in a good .gitignore for r projects (an llm will create one for you). I then use github desktop, add that repository and push to github.

Have you tried playing around with Claude code on the web? You can set it up to integrate with Rstudio but it's a bit of a pain in Windows. Installing it can be helpful because it gives Claude direct access to your codebase, but that's probably not needed for a typical RCT.

Yep! I’ve been using Positron for all my work since September 2024 (though I still teach RStudio for now). See here for more www.andrewheiss.com/blog/2024/07...

Do you use positron instead of RStudio? And if so, what are the main benefits of it for you? Ive never used positron instead

Just opened RStudio to do really basic multiplication. Maybe I should be disappointed in myself, but at least I didn't reach for 'bc' in the terminal 🤡🤣

I remember J.J. Allaire telling me back in 2022 that he envisioned Quarto someday having a collaborative editor which could work like Google Docs. #QuartoPub

I like positron but I can't get the LaTeX compatibility to work in Quarto. I probably could but, RStudio just works, and I can't be bothered

I want to point out that RStudio doesn't allow zooming to 200%, so I took a screen shot of Rstudio using the Mac screen zoom function. I also like the Positron way of doing things, but the RStudio version just looks....nicer?
January 9, 2026 at 9:26 PM
That solved part of it, but the image < screen rez. IMaybe it's a resolution issue, rather than an aspect ratio issue... if so, my fault 😬

Compare: left is from Positron at 2560x1440, and right is from RStudio.

Zooming in to 200%, one sees the problem. #3 is from Positron and #4 is from RStudio.

Am currently reviewing the different visualisation panes between RStudio and Positron. Positron’s viewer, in default settings, maintains a fixed aspect ratio that does not scale when I pop it out and maximize the window. I haven’t found the settings that alter this. It’s a deal breaker for me.
