3 - Inside the mount there is a HOME sensor for both axis. That is aligned to the mount's AZ = 0 (north) and ALT = 0 degrees. The OnStep controller can 'find' home automatically like a CNC machine does. Its an optical sensor with an occulting disk. ⬇️

Question for the #Astrophotography folks... I just started adding OnStep to my 10" ES Costco Dob (f/5). Have an older laptop laying around I'm thinking of doing some beginning Astrophotography with. Currently have my old Nikon D2X, but considering getting a deep sky dedicated camera.

You may wonder how the mount knows where it is all the time? It's driven by stepper motors with a 100:1 gear system. OnStep keeps track of the steps to know where it is at any given time. If you're in doubt find home and start again. Fast and easy.

Wow! I was able to work on my 🔭 tonight, and get it all back together. My OnStep board is working great! On top of that, after a quick collimation, I now have ROUND STARS in the corners of my images. No more bats! 🤣
I have a couple more things to do before I can image again, but this is great! 1/3

Wow! I was able to work on my 🔭 tonight, and get it all back together. My OnStep board is working great! On top of that, after a quick collimation, I now have ROUND STARS in the corners of my images. No more bats! 🤣

Io ho una Celestron CG-4 che è praticamente una EQ3.2 però a detta di molti leggermente più curata. Se vuoi qualcosa di pronto la EQM35 va bene, se ti piace mettere mano ti consiglierei di cercare una Vixen Great Polaris e motorizzarla con un kit onstep. Altrimenti ci sono le nuove Strain Wave…

Io ho una Celestron CG-4 che è praticamente una EQ3.2 però a detta di molti leggermente più curata. Se vuoi qualcosa di pronto la EQM35 va bene, se ti piace mettere mano ti consiglierei di cercare una Vixen Great Polaris e motorizzarla con un kit onstep. Altrimenti ci sono le nuove Strain Wave…
