A #BlueRiband winner in 1876, the #WhiteStarLine #OceanLiner #SSBritannic was launched on #ThisDayInHistory in 1874. Her single-screw propulsion was augmented with auxiliary sails in a four-masted barque configuration and her career on the #NorthAtlantic was nearly 30 years long.

The #OceanLiner #RMSLucania was launched on #ThisDayInHistory in 1893. Identical to her running-mate #RMSCampania, the #Cunard liner shared a distinction of being the largest afloat, and took the #BlueRibard speed record from her sister on her second voyage, holding it 'til 1898.

The visionary #IsambardKingdomBrunel pioneered North Atlantic #OceanLiner #steamships with three (unprofitable) one-off designs. The largest of these by far was #SSGreatEastern, launched #ThisDayInHistory in 1858. Her length was exceeded only in 1899 and her tonnage only in 1901.

That Oceanliner fella on YouTube did a movie-length video on this one and... so many "oh NO" moments. Proper horror story stuff.

i guess because i watch Oceanliner Designs and Brick Immortar a lot, youtube seems to think i want to see ads for cruise ships. LOL gag me with a haggis
Why did COVID have to kill so many awesome little restaurants, but not these fucking things

I suggest Brick Immortar - ships and co-related military or industry[cargo, fishing, etc] disasters with focus on the safety of labor aspect;
and Oceanliner Designs - primarily about ships and other co-related material

Finishing Titanic, and all the oceanliner Designs docs I watched about the real RMS Titanic really turns this movie into a horror film. Knowing more about it makes it more real.

What’s crazy is how accurate it is about a lot of stuff and how in the 29 years since, we have somehow continued to learn shit about titanic, despite the wreck continuing to deteriorate? The Oceanliner Designs videos are really fascinating.

Watched too many Titanic-related videos from Oceanliner Designs on YouTube over the last two months so I’ve put on Titanic (1997) as one does.

Over a century later it's still the most well known transportation disaster in history. Oceanliner nerds will be watching that film long after Joanne is a footnote in pop culture.

The small #OceanLiner #RMSRepublic, built in 1903 for #DominionLine but sold to #WhiteStarLine after just two voyages, made news on #ThisDayInHistory in 1909 with the first wireless #CQD distress signal. It had collided with #SSFlorida off Massachusetts and sank the next day.

The tiny #OceanLiner #SSValencia from 1882 was wrecked on #ThisDayInHistory in 1906, with more than 130 lives lost. She was sailing blind and grounded on a reef at #VancouverIsland. Mistakes wasted most lifeboats, and just 23 crew members and 12 male passengers made it to land.

One day, during the morning, Queen Mary remembered Berengaria's first piece of advice, which was to not trust firefighters. This was prophetic as Queen Mary's friend, Normandy, was destroyed by firefighters as they put out a fire on her superstructure.
