I think there's something really funny about the way that the other two members of the top trio are [redacted] in the middle of a conversation about how they're not [redacted] but it's a crime to not actually explore that world and their role in it!

I think they paced the season wrong. The last episode is basically a nothing burger. The reveal of the [redacted] universe when he sees the flag comes like 45 minutes (of TV time) before the end of his time in the universe. Why not explore the conceit of the twist a little more?

For some reason our middle school library had a BUNCH of books about UFOs, conspiracies, and Other Weird Stuff™ from the 60s and 70s. I remember reading this one book that talked about Timothy Leary's LSD experiments.
