Okay I really enjoyed Message From Space. Not in a “haha it’s fun to laugh at it” way. Really unreservedly loved it! And it had a couple of actors we recognized: Vic Morrow and Sonny Chiba!

🗺️🌍🥖 Post-Napoleonic Europe - Reign of the Three Bonapartes (1887)

1887, L'Empire Universel.

Once the empire that heeled the world now crumbled under Communard insurrection and imperial corruption. Splintered and lorded by three Bonapartes, Europe will never see unity again until one stands last.

I think Modern Pentathlon was built around the skills you'd need to be a manly soldier man in the days of Napoleonic wars.

lol. Dan the dwarf Nazi with the napoleonic complex? The same guy that said the murdered nurse was brandishing a gun?

Lots of treasures await at the Bishop’s Palace in Waterford, but the Napoleonic ephemera must be the most unexpected… the city welcomed young bride Letitia Bonaparte-Wyse and she left her pianoforte, mourning cross, and a lock of her uncle’s hair.

#6 The Duellists
Strong first movie from Ridley. Just two guys trying to kill each other during the Napoleonic Wars. Really easy to watch.

The 1800 Polly decision was a significant British Admiralty Napoleonic Wars. It established the "doctrine of continuity," allowing American ships to break voyages from French/Spanish colonies to Europe by stopping in the U.S., thereby bypassing British "Rule of 1756" though it was later limited.

A few pics from last nights Napoleonic game at the club. Prussian, Russian & Austrians clashed with the French. Ended with an allied victory after the Russians broke the centre.

Which were built from the bones political philosophies and ideologies of the English Civil Wars we should note!

I think US philosophical/political thought really only began to intersect with its UK counterparts post-Napoleonic Wars with the intermingling of the Chartists and abolitionists.

I get why the war itself is overlooked, it became another European conflict and then didn't alter the course of empire/British history much. Then it was completely overshadowed by the titanic French Revolutionary/Napoleonic wars, much like the War of 1812.

They had it better in Soviet Russia, where active duty soldiers were ordered to be extras in epic Napoleonic and WW2 movies

Karl Marx’s father died fairly young of TB, and apparently under the misogynistic Napoleonic Code (which was the code of law in post-Napoleon Trier until 1900!) a widow could not manage her own estate, so a gov’t bureaucrat was made executor

Karl’s mother didn’t want him to take much of the $$

Of those big European wars what are the ones that are widely known outside the places they happened? Mostly the 30 years war, seven years war and revolutioanry/napoleonic wars? Maybe the War of Spanish Succession?
February 6, 2026 at 11:06 PM
1700 Great Northern War (~400k)
1701 War of Spanish Succession (1.251m)
1740 War of Austrian Succession (359k)
1756 Seven Years War (992k)
1789 French Revolutionary Wars (pre-napoleonic) (663k)
1803 Napoleonic Wars (~2.8m)

And that's a limited selection!

It's never even stuff like the collections he does a couple of times per decade to remind us that he loves Doctor Zhivago and the Napoleonic Wars. It's always the boring-ass business casual J Crew stuff.
