A public library represents all interests and viewpoints and serves all patrons by providing a number of services and resources beyond access to reading material. Dissolving a library board in order to remove a single book is not only censorship but an act of political and cultural violence.
A North Carolina county’s library board was dissolved over a disagreement about having a picture book about a trans boy remain on shelves.

“It’s a pretty dramatic response to wanting to have diverse and inclusive books on shelves,” says PEN America's Kasey Meehan. (gift link) wapo.st/4scLc2u

got it. i got the feeling it was trivial from the comment left in the @atproto/sync library about filtering potentially being server-side in the future.
Do you think it's something that, after being thoroughly thought through for both collection & repo filtering, might be added to Sync 1.2 or 1.3?

Has anyone talked about the shape of the Eras stage being like a lamp? I’ve thought it a few times, but then seeing the transition into TTPD during the final show and there being a couple of lamps flying around in there I began to wonder. See MH Abrams - The Mirror and the Lamp.

You know what feels good? Walking into the Tarlton law library at the University of Texas law school to do a little research and seeing this glorious portrait of Heman Sweatt. Sweatt v Painter was a pivotal case in desegregating public education. The case, and Mr. Sweat, deserve this recognition.

I finished Dungeon Crawler Carl, and it was quite a fun ride. Alas, my version of Libby, the library program, only has a Spanish version of Book 2, so I guess I'll see how far my Duolingo score of 110 gets me in reading that. It'll be good exercise for my brain!

AI x Multilateralism: AI Empire or Global Commons? Why Inclusive Governance Matters, with Dr. Rachel
Source: https://www.podbean.com/eau/pb-6c69m-19df822 This is AI x Multilateralism, a mini-series on The Next Page, where experts help us unpack the many ideas and issues at the nexus of AI and international cooperation.  AI has the dual potential to transform our world for the better, while also deepening serious inequalities. In this episode we speak to Dr. Rachel Adams, Founder and CEO of the Global Center on AI Governance and author of The New Empire of AI: The Future of Global Inequality. She shares why Africa-led and Majority World-led research and policy are essential for equitable AI governance that's grounded in the realities of people everywhere. She reflects on: why the work of the Center's flagship Global Index on Responsible AI and its African Observatory on Responsible AI are bringing much-needed research and evidence to ensure AI governance is fair and inclusive.  her thoughts on the UN General Assembly's 2025 resolutions to establish an International Scientific Panel on AI and a Global Dialogue on AI Governance, urging true inclusion of diverse voices, indigenous perspectives, and public input why we need to treat AI infrastructure as an AI Global Commons and, the power of local-language AI and public literacy in ensuring we harness the most transformative aspects of AI for our world.  Resources mentioned:  The Global Center on AI Governance The Center's Global Index on Responsible AI The Center's African Observatory on Responsible AI, and its research series Africa and the Big Debates on AI Production:    Guest: Dr. Rachel AdamsHost, production and editing: Natalie Alexander Julien Recorded & produced at the Commons, United Nations Library & Archives Geneva  Podcast Music credits:Sequence: https://uppbeat.io/track/img/sequenceMusic from Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/img/sequenceLicense code: 6ZFT9GJWASPTQZL0#AI #Multilateralism #UN #Africa #AIGovernance

Android phone users who don't have Spotify, what's your go-to podcast app?

My music streaming I switched to Tidal, which doesn't also have podcasts.

Bonus points if it can import your library/listened episodes from Spotify but not vital.
