From Slavery by Another Name by Douglas Blackmon The iob of a countv sheriff became a heady enterprise, often more akin to the business of trading in mules than law enforcement. Sheriffs and their local judges developed special relationships with local companies and preferred acquirers of their prisoners. Arrests surged and fell, not as acts of crime increased or receded, but in tandem to the varying needs of the buyers of labor. Companies, commissioners, justices of the peace probate judges, and sheriffs issued offers of rewards for escapees. Constables arrested men on speculation that they might be wanted elsewhere, seizing them on the basis of rumors, and then inquiring whether there might be reward money available in the countv from which they hailed. Town bullies and rural store owners such as Elliott became bounty hunters verging on extortionists.

We can never get these stolen years back. My oldest will not get a re-do of kindergarten. Miles claims that teachers who defy him are lazy, or stupid, or lying. They are not. These teachers are heros! They know this curriculum is developmentally inappropriate, insane, and cruel.
We're not losing teachers because they don't like change - as Mike Miles often claims. We're losing them because they don't like change that hurts kids. A curriculum that denies actual books ta children cannot be healthy, no matter what the test scores purport to say. Rose iust wanted to read a riveting novel about a brave little mouse. Her teacher shouldn't have to risk her iob to make that happen

Not one, not two, but thousands of HISD teachers have lost their jobs under Miles's authoritarian "leadership" because they have dared to buck his requirement to teach the district-created, NES curriculum "with fidelity." How, you ask? Well, they've had the audacity to read real books, sing, draw 🧵
Knowing the stakes, Rose and her classmates at their west-side elementary practiced the drill iust as their teacher instructed. The third graders kept a stack of worksheets tucked underneath their chapter books at all times as they took turns reading aloud with their teacher. At any moment, they knew, their teacher might get an urgent text that district officials were on campus. Rose's mother says a staffer apparently sent alerts using a secret code of emojis to signal which classrooms the officials were coming for. Rose always placed her book with the open side down so as not to lose her page. She was smitten by the gallant, non-conforming little mouse who takes on the cunning dungeon rats in Kate DiCamillo's book "The Tale of Despereaux." The 8-year-old never thought she'd be part of a daring plot in her own classroom. "I just wanted to read the book,' Rose, now 9, told me in a recent interview. Books - actual books, with dust jackets spines, whimsical illustrations. and characters and cliffhangers - are ncreasingly unwelcome in the land of worksheets and slide shows. Teachers say that, with few exceptions, the only stories allowed in the early qrades of state-appointed HISD Superintendent Mike Miles' New Education Svstem are minced into dry text that teachers reac from manuals. The few approved books focus on phonics. f district evaluators had walked into the classroom of Rose and Max last year and found every desk spread with paperbacks, the teacher could have faced reprimand, lost points in her spot review and, if she'd repeated the indiscretion, lost her iob

Maybe the motivation will be tea because consuming anything is gonna be on hold until I get hooked back to a CGM. I was cruising at 170 with no IOB when the sensor died.

Lower provisions helped Indian Overseas Bank report a 58% jump in net profit at Rs 1226 crore in the second quarter of the fiscal as compared with Rs 777 crore in the year ago period. The lender's asset quality improved further. The bank set aside Rs 673 crore in the quarter as total provisions while it was Rs 1146 crore in the year-ago period. Provisions against bad loans were higher at Rs 121 crore against Rs 71 crore. IOB's net interest margin for the quarter improved to 3.21% as compared with 3.08% in the year-ago period.

Summary of a Poor Rehiring Decision So, a guy who has no qualifications for a verv important iob somehow gets the iob. He then proves he is the worst possible person to have ever had the job and gets fired. Not long after, he reapplies for the jok and not only lies about all that he dic when he had the iob, he qoes out of is way to insult evervone who is nterviewing him for the job. He also makes it clear that if he gets the job again, he will do everything he can to destroy the company . . and yet somehow, showing they are complete and utter idiots. the nterviewers rehire this guy for the job. The "rehiring" of Trump, in a nutshell.

What id do is spin what you've done at work into skills/etc.

Dunno your exact working situation but for example of spinning a retail iob: teamwork, punctual, communicative.

And then things like: willingness to learn etc.

Its never easy job hunting but its sorta just. Selling your skills and self
