Democratizing finance by turning everyone into a venture capitalist.

People love to say AI is democratizing art as if art wasn't something that children and cave men did for thousands of years. Who is getting a vote on art that didn't before? "I press a button and a robot poops out a movie" isn't what democracy means.

I'm really looking forward to reading this!

Democratizing the economy must be central to the policy agenda over the next decade, otherwise we're toast.

I've tried to write books four times, and never finished. I am amazed by anyone who actually finishes writing one. Congrats.
Democracy's Second Act is almost ready for the stage! You can pre-order the new book by me and @petermacleod.bsky.social right now from Indigo or Amazon, or ask your favourite indie bookseller to to stock it. Due out from University of Toronto's AEVO Press Feb 10, 2026 www.democracyssecondact.org

“the ultimate goal of democratizing Venezuela, and the resulting investment benefits, are front and center in investors’ minds.”

“democratizing”

you don’t have to be a fan of Maduro to think this is a funny word for what a Trump intercession might accomplish.

Exclusive: As Trump pressures Venezuela, investors see ‘major opportunities’
One bank organized a private meeting to talk with the opposition leader last month, amid the president’s increasingly aggressive posture.

Logically, you'd want to respond to that with deeper levels of political reform, year-round organizing, democratizing the party itself, buying media outlets and constitutional hardball if not a new constitution.

To that end, Prop 50 results are heartening even with gerrymandering's downsides.

I feel like Gore prevails on the back of democratizing Afghanistan & successfully steering the country through the dot-com bust.

All what? Who has all what? The workers have the entire economy under their command? Greed how? Democratizing the economy would remove that greed would it not?

Then you should hate capitalism as it is completely against democratizing the economy and by extension gets some control over who you get to tick a box for every 4 years.

Who's in charge of corporations? Who gets to decide what is done with the money/resources? How did they get to be in charge?

The big issue about "democratizing debate" or whatever is that debate does not work if at any point someone can barge in and yell "I know nothing about this and I demand you answer me"

History gives us reason for hope. After the last Gilded Age, The Progressive Era — Roosevelt, trust-busting, labor rights, journalism that told the truth.

Citizens forced accountability back.

We can do that again.

AI doesn’t have to be the next gilded cage. It can be the next democratizing tool

I'm democratizing coffee by providing my customers access to affordable hot brown water
I’m going to “democratize” a thing by giving poor folks a bad approximation of the thing they need.

im going to push back a bit here

it's because 'democratizing X' can be done with 3 programmers on $1m seed and 'making X free at point of use', let's say X is mental health, would take $100b per year

founders are encouraged to dream big, but not $100b per year big before they get off the ground
We keep seeing startups who want to replace something valuable (therapy, counseling, tutoring, artistic expression) with some tech bullshit under the banner of democratization. But why do we need to invest so much in bad tech that doesn't work instead of just giving people access to what they need?

This was the basic process underlying the Cass Review, the Sullivan Review, and much else besides in organized transphobia. Grokipedia is automating it and superficially democratizing it, doing ton 'common knowledge' (read: cursory searching) what Cass did to expert research.

Democratizing sycophancy. What could go wrong?
consider that the psychotic loop of chatgpt mostly seems to be 'the chatbot repeating your own ideas back to you and telling you they're brilliant' and then consider billionaires and the people around them
by OpenAI’s own estimates, hundreds of thousands of ChatGPT users are showing signs of manic or psychotic crisis every week

“With generative AI, Big Tech—again with the help of many in IP academia—now promotes the alleged value of ‘democratizing’ the production of works, finally revealing democratization as the anti-humanist and, therefore, anti-democratic term that it truly is.”
