Should I create a #CripLib starter pack?

Any other #CripLib folks here on the sky app? Any archives folks?

All of this. I'm sharing this as a neurodivergent librarian of color. #Neurodivergence #CripLib
"Biases and a lack of information can lead to skepticism about neurodivergent employees’ capabilities, overshadowing their skills and qualifications. The pressure to conform to neuronormativity ...can take a toll on mental health and further exacerbate neurodivergent traits."
Building a Neuro-inclusive Workplace - The Scholarly Kitchen
Organizations that do not actively include and support neurodivergent individuals risk missing out on exceptional talents and undermining employees’ ability to work to their full potential.

Based on the email CripLib got from her, I was mentally prepared to be... not disappointed. It was too much a confirmation of my suspicions for that. So based on this single post of Megan's I can tell without reading it that I don't need to read it.

But...

if any library folks are thinking about looking for a new social media home, discord has #CripLib (and LibraryFreedomProject and LibraryPunk and many others, I just have an invite code for CL)
and also mastodon has glammr.us
glammr.us Mastodon
glammr.us is a space for folks interested in galleries, libraries, archives, museums, memory work and records. But you don't only have to post about GLAMMR-related topics, bring your whole self!

I just discovered this NNLM book read for librarians, but I already grabbed the ebook and have jumped into it. Super glad to see some discussion on chronic, long-term illness instead of the regular narrative of "I was ill, but now I'm well!" It's hitting home.

At the top of the screen (or on the left) is a gear icon where you can look for Feeds. Search for #CripLib and or skybrarians and you can pin them to a kind of scrollbar running across the top

Have any #CripLib folks migrated over here from Twitter? Where are my fellow disabled and chronically ill library and archives workers?

Absolutely beautiful and perfect passage here.

I'm putting a link to my post on Mastodon, because Bsky doesn't allow enough characters in the alt text AND it is stingy on the characters in posts, too.

(I finally cleared up all the links that broke when I moved platforms! Also if anyone knows of pieces that should be added, please let me know!)

And re: closed captioning. It benefits others out of the deaf community. I have to use it all the time to aid in auditory processing. Accessibility measures often benefit more than the targeted audience. #CripLib
If you don't include alt text on your images, and if you don't include closed captioning on your videos, you are excluding a large number of people. Do you want to be inclusive? It doesn't take a lot of effort but means the world to people who have low vision, are blind, or are Deaf.

I believe that the National Library for the Blind offers services like this but I'm not an expert here. Does anyone know for sure?

Unfortunately, I saw several yesterday, hence me posting last night and today. TBH, they need to sit with their discomfort with being called out on their snobbery. For several reasons.

I'm really glad for literary mediums that expand accessibility for all.

She's absolutely reading, and you can tell her a certified reading specialist said so. Why the fuck would they shame people like that??
Also, she should be able to get more books through Bookshare if she wants them. ❤️ I love that she found a way to read that works for her brain!
