Usually pretty happy working with cattle- you really have to watch out is if in an enclosed space or worse still when loading them. I hated that job. Walked right through a group of shorthorn heifers yesterday in the Cheviots. Some gave off alarmed body language but none of them moved.

Congrats Michael who's photos win our October competition. He gets a €100/£80 Hillwalk Tours gift voucher. On St Cuthbert's Way he straddled the Scotland-England border, captured the beauty of the Cheviots & walked barefoot on the tidal sands to Holy Island. A trail well travelled. #HillwalkTours

Hubby is out and about around Chillingham, Wooler and the College Valley and he's seen a bit of snow (not just on the Cheviots, although that's where he took this picture) ❄️

Still shaking off the tail end of this cold but we made it up onto Northumberlandia this afternoon. Can’t fault the autumn so far and the views today were very clear.

The Cheviots this afternoon. About -15 with windchill up there today, so best admired from afar!

I've always wondered if the east coast gets better weather than the west coast. You get first shot at the Atlantic weather and we get sheltered from it with the Highlands/Cheviots/Dales & Pennines 🤷

Excellent thread 👏

Must go back to the cheviots soon!

They’ve managed somehow to make something that’s kind of reminiscent of the smell you get when walking in the Cheviots. I suppose it is quite “farmy” and a lot of people won’t like it. But there’s a sweetness in the air, particularly on the hills on summer days. Really captures that.

Beautiful day for hitting the reset button walking on #simonside and watching the setting sun over the Cheviots. Love #northumberland #wellbeing

A fabulous walk around #Rothbury Terraces with views over Simonside, Coquetdale, and the Cheviots. Saw my first swallow and skylark of the year, plus this stone engraved by E. Rigby in 1908. Was she up here on holiday from Liverpool perhaps?

In the Cheviots this morning at Alnham, Northumberland. The only car in the parking area and zero persons seen on the walk. 😀

The Cheviots are looking glorious at the moment. Breaking trail is going to be tough if this doesn’t melt though!

Go steady

In the pre-Trump era this may have been true.

You're still making the mistake of assuming that international agreements, the rule of law, respect for basic rights and humanity and actual boundaries mean something.

If England goes Trump, that border along the Cheviots will be irrelevant.

Look at this stunning scenery! This photo of the Cheviots was captured by ranger Mark whilst surveying the Pennine Way.

Tonight's room with a view up in the Cheviots near Lamb Hill. Still the odd snow patch dotted about.

The climb up from Washington to Spring well is a bit of a slog but whizzing back down Sheriff Hill into Gateshead is great fun! If you do it on a summer evening then sunset over the Cheviots in the distance looks magical as you're freewheeling down.

Red-berried Elder (Sambucus racemosa) stood out like a sore thumb on our recent trip to the Cheviots. A random one but not something I see very often! #botany

In the Cheviots, Northumberland, around 1980, when Aran sweaters were trendy. Yes believe it, they were!
