#Boulmer
What is it with recent Februaries and atrocious sunshine levels?

We’ve not even been averaging 1hr per day in London coupled with 🌧️ which almost has met monthly average. Bleak.

Even more shocking in north, Boulmer in NE England for example has seen 0.8 hours month to date.

After failing to find any Bean Geese around Whittle Dene this morning, delighted to catch up with two Tundra Beans on patch at Boulmer before dusk #NEbirding

We walked from Seaton Point to Boulmer this afternoon and a scary amount of cuttlefish on the beach!

Lovely dry day walk up at Boulmer/Longhoughton Steel/Sugar Sands today with Suzanne. Quiet bird-wise with a confiding juv Merlin a bonus, lots of Rock Pipits and the ever-evocative sound of calling Curlews whilst picking our way through a Cuttlefish-apocalypse.

Another gloomy day... but hey ho! It is #TerrierTuesday!
So here comes a sunny memory of Pebble and Flora's @rmpk-flora-foxie.bsky.social first ever playdate! Two years ago to the date in Boulmer. One of my favourite pictures of these two!

Dave got 260 in 2020, a record not to be broken any time soon I would think! I’ll give it my best, an American wader or two at Boulmer would be most welcome 😁

This is very cool, I seem to remember they did something similar years ago. My mate taught the Space course at the School of Air Battlespace Management (RAF Boulmer); having previously served at SBIRS in the US. He demonstrated the tool in one of his lectures.

@kosmickris.bsky.social u seen this?

Perfect stillness this morning as the tide was coming in. Not even a ripple, the sea looked like glass. Sea fret obscuring the horizon.

Have a peaceful Sunday all ❤️

What started as a casual conversation about bees has grown into a thriving initiative at RAF Boulmer, with personnel embracing an unusual but rewarding hobby: beekeeping.

My packs of 6 Northumberland coastal scene cards are always a favourite. Each pack is a lucky dip of seascapes, puffins, harbours, beaches and big sky views. You might find Boulmer, Low Newton, Beadnell, Seahouses, Craster or Long Nanny inside. #Art

2026 appears to be the year when Green Woodpecker became twitchable in #Northumberland. Birders heading for a lone bird at Mitford this week. Never 'common' but used to be found at many widespread sites...a sad start to the year. #fieldnotes #BirdNotes #BirdSketches #BirdArt

Also at Boulmer, this Black-headed Gull was quite the looker - the photo doesn’t really do justice to how rosy it appeared. But not the pink gull I I had been hoping for! #NEbirding #birds

Boulmer like the Arctic this morn. -2° with wind chill on top. Male Black Redstart out on the seaweed, a female Merlin didn't look too good as it hopped along the ground below a fence line , Little Egret S plus 21 Song Thrushes on 300 mtrs of beach.

We took our traditional new-year birding walk around Boulmer, Northumberland, this year and stayed until sunset. We saw 32 species including hundreds of lapwing and golden plover, smaller numbers of grey plover, plus widgeon, eider, curlew, and even a song thrush and grey wagtail on the beach.

Morning all - a return to scheduled programming today!

I've added RAF Boulmer to the site - first a decoy RAF base from 1940 then a fully fledged airfield and Cold War operations centre through after the war. It's still in use too.
