Hillhead Burgh Hall, designed by George Bell of Clarke and Bell, photographed in the 1960s. It opened in 1873 and was demolished less than a century later in 1970. The site was later used for the new Hillhead Library in 1972.

The James Watt North Building on Glasgow University's Gilmorehill Campus. Designed by J.J. Burnet in a Scots Baronial style, it was originally built in 1901 to house the Engineering Department.

The entrance to the former Bridgeton Public Library on Landressey Street in the East End of Glasgow. Designed by J.R. Rhind and built in 1903, it's now home to the Glasgow Women's Library.

Three high schoolers founded a book club that reads some of the country's most frequently banned books after a state law removing books with sexual content was signed in 2023. Two years later, many of the books have been reshelved and parts of the law can't be enforced.

The Bibliotheque Carnegie is one of the thousands of libraries worldwide funded by Andrew Carnegie, but the only one in France. Designed by architect Max Sainsaulieu, it opened in 1928 and is still a working municipal library, so the public areas can be visited for free.

We discovered a photo of artist Hilda Goldwag in our collection and indentified the painting she’s working on!

A refugee from Vienna in the 1930s, she became an important figure in Scottish art. Her story reminds us of the creativity and resilience migrants bring to our culture.
