#Bakshi
I loved the Bakshi version, too, but was inspired to another level again by the majestic BBC Radio 4 series which included two actors reprising their roles from the animated film: Michael Graham Cox (Boromir) and Peter Woodthorpe (Gollum).

In my home town, there was a theater that showed all the good sci fis, and fantasy films. Ralph Bakshi movies, Star Trek films, etc. One of my first movies at that theater was that one. I was just a kid. It was so not-Disney.

yeah... I'm that old.

The Ralph Bakshi Lord of the Rings (1978)

Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack (1979)

Bubble Boy (2001)
Have asked this before and always like the responses. What are your biggest “I saw that in the first run cinema” flexes? Couple of mine:

Transformers: The Movie (1986)
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
Office Space (1999)

It's crazy to think I was in my early 20s when the Lord of the Rings movies came out.

LotR is SUCH a part of the cultural zeitgeist now but when I was growing up it was a weird cartoon by Ralph Bakshi and books that were popular but within their niche (and almost considered proto-fantasy)

imprint—Disney Comics, Inc.—planned to use “Mouseville” in its Mickey production too, but suddenly got worried about legal trouble; the then-current Ralph Bakshi Mighty Mouse TV cartoon series called their town Mouseville—constantly—and that series was much more *visible* than a handful of >

Looking at the comparison between Bakshi and Jackson's LOTR... you can tell the former was trying until the latter perfected it.

I remember seeing Cool World when it aired on HBO while I was in a hotel room (Maybe it took place during the mid 2000's?), and the whole animation was done by Ralph Bakshi.

No surprise to think I have a soft spot on his art style, I imagine.
Going back in time to 1992 specifically to have sex with the giant Holli Would cutout they put on the Hollywood sign to promote Cool World

Publication alert! The language that was denied to me is becoming mine, queerly mine. I’m thrilled to have contributed a chapter to the first-ever comprehensive handbook on Punjab Studies and share space with so many wonderful scholars.
Thank you to Profs Meena Dhanda & Pritam Singh for the invite.

this implies the existence of a Paul Terry of Japan, not to mention a Ralph Bakshi of Japan, or a Rintaro of the United States
