I work healthcare.

AI goes hand-in-hand w/ machine learning: radiation, aggregate outcomes vs disease state, the ability to read RAW data & convert it into EMRs (scans, photos, etc).

Science & healthcare demands integrity & ethics, thus regulations: something these billionaires lack.

What about state bar ethics rules? Will AI represent a client? Go to court on the client’s behalf? Interview witnesses? How would a court sanction AI if it engaged in unethical conduct?

This doesn't at all address the ethics of using AI.

I know that's not the primary driver of this conversation but maybe we need to start talking more about how it's encouraging suicide. About how it's being used by fascists. About its effects on the water supply.
Right now, the conversation about "AI" is whether it actually is valuable. Does it actually deliver enough of the benefits that some people seem to think it does? It's still unclear right now. But I think we have to acknowledge that in some cases, the answer will be yes.

I know I'm terminally Bluesky when I read a round table of librarians discussing AI, and I'm a little shocked they're not agin it. The speakers are not dupes; they're concerned about issues like copyright, ethics, privacy, and plagiarism. Bumped into the edge of my bubble.

it scares me bc we are in a program to become therapists. the easy route is NOT going to help you or future clients in the long run. part of the ethical standards for being a therapist is finding resources and remaining up to date on ethics & procedures. AI is not trustworthy enough to ensure that.

Do you honestly think a political journalist, that got fired for a massive ethics breach should be in a high level AI cabinet position? Because he wrote a handful of laymen's articles about tech back in 90's? Seriously, it's a yes or no question.

I reiterate my position that if the profession of software engineering had, and took seriously, a code of ethics, all work on LLMs and other "generative AI" products would have been ceased years ago

This situation underscores the complexities of AI ethics and the responsibility that comes with algorithmic decision-making. It’s crucial for AI to complement human efforts, not undermine them. What are your thoughts on the balance between AI influence and human oversight in open source projects?

Sci-fi doesn’t just predict the future. It often designs it. From drones to AI companions, what we imagine becomes what companies build. The question is whether we’re building utopia or dystopia.

Well, I have principals. I believe a PM shouldn't appoint his/her friends to high level cabinet positions. Nor do I accept a journalist is more qualified for an AI file than a software engineer. Also, I don't believe someone that was once fired for a massive ethics breach should be in government.

Their friendship is well documented. But even if you want to disregard it, why on earth is a career journalist with a side hustle of dealing art the Minister of AI?? It makes no sense. The file should go to someone with XP, or at least someone that hasn't been fired for a breach of ethics before.
