We've got a 3D printed and hand-painted castle dice tower for #rollfornoodles, which looks amazing. I also suggested making a pagoda one at a later point, because, aren't they just marvellous in fantasy Cdrama? #popculture #game #fantasy #dnd

I'll be at Dragonmeet tomorrow, just as an attendee, but if you've got a game you think I'd be interested in, or want to talk about jiangshi, swordsmen, Chinese gods or what the CNSA do with terraforming, drop me a message!

My remit spans across popular Chinese cultures, and I'm delighted that my WIP on wuxia storytelling culture, has gained so much enthusiasm from you all, we're still trying to find the best home for it. But next year, I have a new book out on another subject. Stay tuned for more news soon! 5/5

Some classical Chinese ghost stories have been well-loved by English readers, despite the orientalist perspectives that accompanied their 19th century translations, so I was glad to be asked to introduce this classic collection, and in a way, culturally reclaim these works of Chinese literature. 4/

Chinese Myths, a book for those who are new to China's amazing pantheons and supernatural bestiaries, want to find out more or get a broad overview. Also fun to dip into if you want to read about things you've come across in Cdramas, movies and games. #culture 3/

Wonderful to have the chance to write a long essay about the phenomenal online output I'd seen and worked with through the 2010s that have fuelled the China's contemporary multimedia SFF storytelling, especially from female and writers of other marginalised gender identities. 2/ #nonfiction

My #SFF curations get more traction, but I'm primarily a nonfiction author. During #nonfictionnovember, I'm spotlighting this output. Starting with #books. This sociocultural guide to deities was a crazy endeavour of telling the stories of 60, I'm delighted with its wide and lasting impact. 1/

she might grow up to be one disturbed individual, at least she'll be ecologically aware, it's all made out of scraps and waste metal. And let's face it, the old fairy tales weren't always pretty. 2/2

"Were the rooms I provided not adequate?"

"I just prefer to stay in a cave."

Perfect wuxia moment.

While signing, I spoke to a Chinese/Italian translator, a Chinese lit student and a young lady running a bookshop who told me how much she appreciated my work in curating Chinese SFF, it has made the tricky planning, scheduling, the rush and late nights worth it, to be there, to talk to them. 3/3

The Q & A was packed, with some audiences perched on windowsills, though I had an interpreter (who was great) I still spoke directly to the attendees. From the enthusiastic vibe, I felt a connection that transcended language barriers. Names of some of the readers who queued up for the signing. 2/

Sunday started with a bang, as I woke up to this from the director of MUFANT, who was excited to see Sinofagia (Sinophagia Italian ed.) and our Chinese horror event covered at length by one of the city's major papers, Corriere Torino, who had requested an interview with me. 1/

Had a couple of hours yesterday morning to walk around the wondrous city of Turin, and try its signature chocolate and coffee drink, before heading off to the amazing MUFANT, museum of the fantastic.

A very quick look at Turin upon arrival, and a wonderful evening with my host, sampling some typical dishes Piedmont cuisines.

I'm out for a few days, to talk about Chinese genre fiction with Italian audiences, will try to post some cool stuff from Turin, will definitely have more to share when I get back. Have a lovely weekend all!

This is the result of a conversation on Instagram after I sent out a request for what kind of wuxia stuff people wanted me to talk about while I'm writing the book. One great question that came up was What is Jianghu? Well, the "Rivers and Lakes" have meant many different things, and all of them!

Mozi wasn't just a renowned philosopher, but an inventor of early machinery). Don't they look so silk punk! A lot of the cool mechanical contraptions you see in Chinese historical fiction and wuxia fantasies probably take as much influences from Warring States 墨家机关 as stuff like #steampunk. 2/2

The annual National Art Academy graduation exhibition in Hangzhou is usually much anticipated. This year, some particular entries by a master student called Nie Shichang, stole the show. Inspired by both new tech and the mechanical arts of the Mo Clan. 1/

I think those famously swordsmen-friendly condors might have new company, armoured wild geese. #wuxia

China's been producing some excellent thrillers and dark mysteries, but its ideas of #horror fiction are still somewhat schlocky. Zhou Yu's supernatural horror about a filmmaker who returns with his crew, to the site where his friend disappeared years ago. A refreshing creepy #film for a change.

The #horror of the #gothic, the wonder of #scifi have always bled into each other. In 1977, Ridley Scott blurred the boundaries, introducing us to the xenomorph in Alien. I'll be in Turin 23.11.25 to discuss how they blend into Chinese #popculture and sign copies of Sinophagia, now out in Italian.

Came across this for the new wuxia #film of The Invincible Swordsman ("Laughing Swordsman" based on Jin Yong novels, released earlier this year). A love letter to classic 20th century Chinese film poster art. I've been excited about Sammo Hung's role as the hermit master, he looks magnificent.
