How the nyt used the Cass report to restart its anti-trans propaganda campaign in the US:
Coverage of the report was initially assigned to a nyt UK correspondent, usual practice for a UK report. The story being prepared cited critics who called Cass a shoddy, political document that defied science
One reason the NYT has burned its credibility with trans people is that they still cite the discredited Cass report in reporting on trans healthcare. Never the German, Utah, or other systematic reviews supporting care. They also never provide the political context behind restrictions in care.

Not to mention the use of ad sponsored content and tracking…

I feel genuinely sad for students that Google worked better in 2009 than it does now. I don’t agree with, but I could see how they would think ChatGPT is “better”.
I remember how excited I was for Chrome, how sleek it was compared to Internet Explorer...but then Chrome got bloated and Firefox was sleek so I switched...and then Firefox slowed down and Safari was great for years...and now Safari is a disaster too.

So my parents have always talked about Northern Exposure with such reverence, a cultural phenomenon that was totally unknown to me bc there were never reruns of it anywhere. I started watching it and was surprised at how much it holds up (not everything!) but it’s just a sweet show.
2025 has been a rough year. What's one piece of art that's brought you absolute joy despite everything?

The lore about schools that DARED to paint Disney characters on their walls???
Disney, then: take down your Goofy art or we will set your house on fire do not fuck with us

Disney, now: your kids will love seeing Pregnant Elsa yanking out Donald Duck's teeth while she denies the Holocaust to a visibly erect Goofy. Or else.

The year is 2025. Currents has been out for 10 years and there has never been an hour in a coffee shop when a single didn’t play.

This is so deeply a good thing
As Australia began enforcing a world-first social media ban for children under 16 years old this week, Denmark is planning to follow its lead and severely restrict social media access for young people.

You can know breastfeeding is better and also know that 1) some women can’t do it (for a bunch of reasons) 2) breastfeeding is a FULL TIME JOB which you cannot do if you have to return to work after 3 months, which comes to point 3) this asshole and his ilk want to push women out of the workforce.
As with everything he says, this is wildly uninformed. Formula keeps getting better and saves lives. And modern research indicates that outcomes are roughly the same. There are reasons to breastfeed but your child isn’t suffering if you don’t
RFK Jr: "All of the ingenuity of corporate America has not produced an infant formula that is superior in nutrition and all the qualities that we want to the infant formula that God made, which is the infant formula in a mother's breast."

'Green Fields at Sunset.' Joan Eardley rarely strikes a false note. Although a flair for pictorial construction is evident even in the freest of her sketches, these are deeply felt personal responses, momentary sensations, and what she called 'the notion of landscape inside me.'

One of my favorite parts about being a certain age on the internet is identifying when someone with absolutely no qualifications whatsoever is just saying shit.

I love this. I actually think this is very valuable. Our friend groups are valuable.
When we say, “Remember, there is organized and there is disorganized and sometimes disorganized is its own kind of organized,” it speaks to how communities often adapt when they know they’re being monitored. In many movements, people have intentionally shifted away from predictable

I think we need to talk about the phrase “surveillance state”—which implies that government is the perpetrator. We’re past that. We’re in a surveillance economy, a hegemony of surveillance culture, from marketing down to the Meta glasses boy.

So now we must discuss Sinners
The thing is I can watch a spooky/unsettling show but if you don’t give me a 100% satisfying ending I will be UPSET for a LONG TIME and I will talk about it CONSTANTLY

One of the things that I haven’t seen much of (and maybe I just missed it) is a discussion of how Tweeness came to symbolize a sincerity that was lacking in political discourse. I really want to read that and see if anyone has anything to say re young adults today.

“Well I wrote about it” is a fantastically telling statement of what she thinks writing is meant to accomplish. She thinks admitting her errors is enough to excuse them. That being held accountable NOW is unthinkable bc she feels she has already “paid the price” & so any negativity, is undue.

Well, it happened. I saw Sinners. I really think theaters need to do end of the year recaps bc I’m sad I didn’t see it there. But what do I know.
December 4, 2025 at 8:53 AM
Honestly. Nothing—and I mean nothing—has radically improved my belief in my worth as a writer than seeing how badly a nepo baby can fuck up and still be published.
i want to thank olivia nuzzi for giving me the confidence to start seriously considering writing a book.
Oh man! This paragraph is brutal. The best thing about this review is it's not trying to be mean. It's just listing how bad the writing is.
