DHS was formed in 2002, in response to the deadliest terrorist attack on the US in 2001. Notably, the second biggest terrorist attack had happened just 6 years earlier and was perpetrated by far right antigovernment extremists but no discussion of anything like DHS followed.

Have you noticed ICE is consistently using suppressors (silencers) on their rifles?

Why are ICE agents using suppressors and battering rams to arrest old men and nonviolent people in broad daylight? This is for maximum effect imo.

Normal. President demands Nobel (or Noble) Peace Prize, is not granted it, demands Greenland as a substitute.

Good job, NYT!

If it weren’t real life, “You didn’t give me a peace prize so now I’m declaring war on you” would be hilarious

Oh man. It would be terrible if people started following Bovino around and playing Baby Shark. It would be terrible because he would hate it, and it would probably become his theme song, and it would make his Nazi in a long coat cosplay all the more ridiculous.

So no one should do that.

In the last 18 days alone:

- Two men in ICE custody have killed themselves (jails are supposed to protect against this)
- Two men died of cardiac-related issues
- One man was reportedly choked to death by a guard
- One man died of fentanyl withdrawal (family question the medical care provided)
A third immigrant held at Camp East Montana has died, reportedly by suicide. Victor Manuel Díaz was detained in Minnesota. He is the sixth migrant to die since Jan. 1 in ICE detention.

My story:

If DOJ is not investigating him, there is no ongoing federal investigation for state and local authorities to supposedly obstruct or interfere with by pursuing their own.
The DOJ is not investigating ICE agent Jonathan Ross for the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a top official said Sunday.

The top DOJ official confirmed that an investigation is underway into Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
Justice Department says it has no plans to investigate ICE agent who killed Renee Good and confirms Walz, Frey probe
Frey and the governor’s office both said Sunday that the DOJ has not contacted them about the investigation.

I just realized that Trump probably thinks hes going to buy Greenland with Venezuelan blood money stashed in Qatar and avoid congress all-together.

Didn't think that sentence could ever exist before 2026...
The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.

The dream of sanitized, popular mass deportations rests on the idea that they can be carried out without mass disruptions. But that is not doable. The Trump-Miller agenda by definition requires prioritizing high removals over all else to achieve ethnic cleansing:

The shadow cabinet idea was a great idea and should have been implemented a year ago. Would have presented an organized, unified response to the chaos, issue by issue, by people with expertise.
Democrats could act like a real opposition party, refusing to validate Trump malfeasance with votes, and setting up a shadow cabinet that regularly communicates how Democrats would be different. But nah.

It’s not only a majority of Democratic voters that hate this approach. US allies see it too.

Uncanny—it’s come to my mind often of late as well.

Paul Simonon of The Clash (not Joe Strummer) wrote that one (The Guns of Brixton)—check out this magical moment last year, in which he came across some young street busker kids in London—and they play it for him and he sings with them—
Punk rock kid buskers (‘The Whops’, tiktok) near the Edgware Rd. They run into Paul Simonon, play Death or Glory for him. He asks if they know The Guns of Brixton. They do -

I've heard rumors that Philadelphia is next for the ICE invasion after Minneapolis.
Maybe I'm wrong, but
1) More than 11% of all ICE agents are in Minneapolis, and they've utterly failed to pacify the city.
2) Philly is 5x the size of Minneapolis.
3) "Minnesota nice" is a thing. We don't have that.

WE KNOW GREENLAND IS STRATEGICALLY IMPORTANT AND THAT THERE ARE BENEFITS IN MAINTAINING A PRESENCE IN THE REGION. THE POINT IS THAT NONE OF THIS REQUIRES TAKING THE ISLAND FROM DENMARK.
The Arctic is warming around four times faster than the rest of the globe.

The changing landscape created a region ripe for opportunity factors that may play a role in President Trump’s sudden quest to obtain Greenland.
Melting ice may raise Greenland’s value. Trump’s fight may be just the start.
Trump has said he wants the territory because of its strategic location. Maps show how a melting Arctic is affecting geopolitics.
