I'm rewatching “Ford vs Ferrari” and had to laugh at Enzo Ferrari’s telling off Lee Iacocca about Ford’s “big ugly factory” and “ugly little cars” because Enzo never gave a damn about the Ferrari road cars. They were only a means by which to raise money to build race cars.

WTF is up with this iOS update? My phone keeps flashing the dialogue box to select btwn “UPDATE NOW” or “LATER”, but for about a half second; too quick for me to even make a selection.

I feel compelled to call out something absolutely unbelievable in Ep. 8 of “Down Cemetery Road”: The bad guy hotwires a Triumph Stag and it starts immediately and he drives off just as nice as you please...

Watching “Tora, Tora, Tora” and had to mention a glaring anachronism – the women in the movie all seem to have late-’60s/early ’70s hairstyles.

Every year on December 7th I am reminded of my first visit to the USS Arizona memorial, in 2003. In the theater for the presentation before riding out to the Memorial I was seated next to an older British gentleman. He told me that he was serving on HMS Argus in the Med when they heard the news…🧵

I have been aware of “Blackadder” for years but never watched it. Dipped a toe in on the first season, and then jumped to the last season, which I had heard so much about.

Gained a whole new level of appreciation for Rowan Atkinson, and I have to say that the final episode was tremendously moving.

Yesterday evening on “Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age” I learned that as the last Ice Age wound down and the planet grew warmer and wetter, allowing grasslands to expand, giant, as in 10-foot-long, otters ruled the African savannah.

Ten. Foot. Long. Carnivorous. Otters…

My infrequent but sorely needed reminder that when abbreviating a decade (“the 1960s”, for example) it's “the ’60s”, not “the 60’s”, which is incorrect in two ways – it lacks the apostrophe that stand in for “19”, and the apostrophe that IS there indicates a possessive.

They listen to someone else reading a book to them and call it “reading”.

For those who are commenting on (whinging about…) the lack of punctuation in the title of the latest “Glass Onion” film from @rianjohnson.bsky.social Johnson – (Should it be “Wake Up, Dead Man”, or “Wake Up Dead, Man”?) I offer this possibility: …

Ordered a new carafe and carafe lid for a Krups coffeemaker through Krupsusa.com. Reasonable price, though shipping was a bit steep. No intimation that the items were coming from the EU, no heads-up on import duty. Got a message from the shipper that import duty must be paid or items returned.

@sarahloumiller.bsky.social I just watched the episode of “My Grandparents’ War” that you appeared in. What a great series!

Why yes, I am a bit miffed that the publication date for the new @merriam-webster.com Collegiate Dictionary was pushed back a week. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 for tomorrow.

Second grade. They sent us home from school.
I was eleven. Teachers started coming in the classroom and crying. A day we will never forget. A time we long for.

So the name of one of the historians who is doing commentary on Ken Burns’s “American Revolution” sounded familiar – and it turns out that I reviewed a book she wrote about the so-called “Boston Massacre”. Ten years of grant-funded research to produce a 320-page book that I gave ⭐️⭐️⭐️. Link follows.
