Just got home from seeing @realgdt.bsky.social 's β€œFrankenstein” in a local theater. Everything good thing you have heard about it, every word of praise, is true. #Frankenstein
I just stepped out of a movie theater into this crisp, cool autumn, Duchess. That beautiful first-quarter moon hanging in the sky is magical.
…the exact relationships, in terms of β€œ2nd-cousin-once-removed” and that sort of thing, but it’s just an intellectual exercise. 2/2
Not every culture sticks to strict definitions of β€œauntβ€œ/β€œuncle”. When I first met my wife’s large extended Hispanic family, at an anniversary party, she told me that everyone there was either an aunt, uncle, or cousin, and it was dependent upon generation. I amuse myself sometimes by calculating… 🧡
Tell me you're estranged from your family, have no friends, and have never felt one moment of genuine human connection without telling me &c.
…Kona from β€œFluke” in β€œBite Me” (Book 3 of the β€œBloodsucking Fiends” trilogy), I am hearing the call of the islands. I can call on β€œThe Island of the Sequined Love Nun” from there…
… noteworthy passages), but I hadn’t finished it. Unthinkable! (But delightful, too, in that I was reading new (to me) Christopher Moore!)
I am wondering, now, whether to pick up the order-of-publication reading task or hopscotch around some more. Pine Cove calls to me, and after encountering… 🧡
I have just finished my sojourn through @theauthorguy.bsky.social’s San Francisco books, and strangely, I realized somewhere around Chapter 13 of β€œSecondhand Souls” that I was in uncharted waters; that is, I had definitely started the book (judging by the sticky-note tabs in my copy marking… 🧡
If C-3PO is β€œfluent in over 6 million forms of communication” why does he always sound like a tourist reading from a foreign-language phrase book whenever he speaks in one of the alien languages?
Here’s my favorite Spitfire, an LF Mark XVIE in the Auckland Museum – a Spitfire with some firepower, not just those rifle-caliber .303 popguns.
…together pretty awkwardly, really, and as much as I like the Star Wars worldscape in general, those discontinuities take me out of the story.
But why a β€œprotocol” droid – essentially a fussy etiquette droid for diplomatic functions? What background would this kid have to support that?
When you take all nine movies together the lack of coherent connections really shows up. Lucas didn’t outline all three trilogies – he stitched themβ€¦πŸ§΅
I'm dying to see it but I'm afraid that the corporate-chain theaters in my area won’t be screening it.
Tried to watch β€œStar Wars, Episode IV” this evening, but I can't get past the continuity disconnects with the prequels/sequels. For instance, if a young Anakin Skywalker built C-3PO, why did an enslaved aspiring pod-racer living in a backwater settlement build a protocol droid?
I have seen this movie many, many times and I JUST noticed the Blind Pig Records sticker on the door jamb in Rob’s office at Championship Vinyl. I have a t-shirt w/that logo bouncing around somewhere.
Read this bit in @theauthorguy.bsky.social ’s β€œA Dirty Job” just as I was about to close the book and screen the John Cusack film β€œHigh Fidelity”. IYKYK.
It's still October 21st in my time zone, so I'm not late in remembering the most beloved space princess of all, Carrie Fisher, on the 69th anniversary of her birth. #PrincessLeia
