"ICE Watch works because it surrounds men seeking approval w ppl loudly expressing their disapproval. The noise has the added benefit of drawing large crowds of bystanders who can quickly outnumber the ICE agents, who then have to decide if they want to escalate a situation or perhaps abandon" it.
For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

ICE OUT FOR GOOD Pittsburgh

Join us for a peaceful march and demonstration. We'll gather in the park for brief remarks before marching to the DHS/ICE Office for quiet reflection. Please bring a flower or a small pebble to lay at a memorial.

Chicago Mayor Issues Defiant Call For A General Strike
It was an audacious proposal, given that the U.S. has never held a true, nationwide general strike.

Can any Pennsylvania media ask if Sen Fetterman’s (or McCormick of course) offices are functional? For example are they even staffed? Does anyone answer the phones at all? Anyone responsive to constituents? How is this not a major issue?? @fetterman.senate.gov @wesa.fm @inquirer.com

Mr. Abrego Garcia was illegally abducted by the Trump Admin and, by their own admission, wrongly deported to El Salvador. He shouldn’t have to spend another second away from his family.

I'm flying to El Salvador tomorrow morning to check on his condition and discuss his return.
