There has been so much suffering this century predicated on nothing but lies and the upselling of fear.

"Wonderful people abound" indeed. If you are reading this you are proof of that.
I keep thinking “my god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength

Wise words from WEB DuBois to gird us today: "It would be shame and cowardice to surrender this glorious land and its opportunities for civilization and humanity to the thugs and lynchers, the mobs and profiteers, the monopolists & gamblers who today choke its soul and steal its resources."

No fan of CHUDs myself, but I must say that this is a good depiction of why I dislike our current climate. The poster isn’t saying this, but the attitude that one must like x film because its ideas/politics are the “right ones” & if one doesn’t, then it must necessarily be because one is against…
What’s funny about the Oscar race this year is the CHUDs are mad at One Battle After Another because it’s “woke” and makes fun of white supremacists but they can’t derail it from winning everything because then the big winner would be SINNERS which is woker and makes more fun of white supremacists

A lot of the movies this year left me rather cold. Didn’t care for either One Battle After Another or Sinners, both of which are likely to collect most of the trophies.

I just learned a friend was hit by an inattentive driver while riding on the popular 9-Line trail in SLC.

She'll need surgery & a long recovery, which is bad enough on its own but this comes right after a layoff in which she lost her healthcare coverage. Here's a link if you can spare a few bucks.

Good read on public media in Utah after the demise of CPB.

The cuts sparked an uptick in public support - but that won't solve the systems long-term problems without a new vision of how we support public media and how it can serve local communities.

This is an excellent and timely analysis that draws on the classic work of the all-but-forgotten media reformer, Charles Siepmann, to bring into focus the long history of trying to democratize our media and protect a public sector that serves society's democratic needs, not private profits.

Still searching for THE film of this holiday season. Don’t care for Wicked and despise the films of Rian Johnson, so we can skip those. Any other suggestions?

Was thrilled to help consult for this fantastic John Oliver segment on the tragic plight of U.S. public media and why, if we hope to be a democracy, we still need public media for so many things that commercial media will never provide. Deserves a wide viewership. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yknM...

Imo: Being snide & contemptuous makes one neither a smarter person nor a moral & ethical one.

Annoying that such is the reigning spirit on so many fronts. I mean, even if your* point is valid or stated cause has justice, try not to be such a petty & miserable jerk.

Idle thought:

Perhaps the gleeful embrace/promotion of AI by the powerful might have something to do w/not only increasing their fortunes & skirting actual workers, but the prospect that it can at last manufacture the narratives they have been pushing for generations.
So there were some AI-generated videos that purported to show Black women ranting about SNAP benefits, and... Fox News is reporting on this like these are real people. They're not! They're AI!

This is truly insane. Total unreality. www.foxnews.com/media/snap-b...
