WAR COSTS US A BETTER WORLD
NEW: Trump is floating a $1.5 trillion war budget.

$1.5 trillion could fund Medicaid, the child tax credit, SNAP, the Department of Education, national highway repair, the NIH, school breakfast & lunch, FEMA, the FAA, the EPA, and federal overdose prevention COMBINED.

War costs us a better world.

Need less ‘the call to heroism has inspired me to be who i was always meant to be!” narratives and more “this fucking sucks and I don’t want to be here but someone has to do it and goddamnit it looks like that’s me” narratives imo.

ICE does not belong in our communities.

We will defend our communities in Minneapolis and across the country in our struggle for peace and justice.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.

The Bureau of Land Management rescinded permits to let bison roam on public land in Montana. The reason? The fear that bison compete with cattle for grazing. With this and the new food pyramid guidelines that prioritize beef, abstaining from eating beef is quickly becoming an anti-fash activity.

Wise words from WEB DuBois to gird us today: "It would be shame and cowardice to surrender this glorious land and its opportunities for civilization and humanity to the thugs and lynchers, the mobs and profiteers, the monopolists & gamblers who today choke its soul and steal its resources."

Months into this, not one person in ICE or CBP or DHS or the White House has suffered a single visible consequence. Not fired, asked to resign, impeached, reprimanded, not even suspended, let alone arrested. Things will continue to deteriorate until that changes. That's it, that's the whole story.

In the midst of all the pandemonium, the US has exited the World Health Organization. The memo from HHS included a weird rant about the WHO not letting US officials take the US flag when they left, which eventually they were able to take with them.

Stephen Miller said that ICE agents have complete immunity under Federal law, so expect and prepare for those agents to act like they will face no consequences from the government.
I keep seeing posts stating that ICE cannot enter your home or a private business without a judicial warrant. While that is legally correct, in reality ICE routinely violates the law by forcing their way in, often by smashing down doors, before violently assaulting people.

Trumpism is fascism.

Two ways to bring a city to its knees: stop picking up the trash and shut off all the wastewater lift stations.
little kids all think trash collectors hang the moon and moreover they’re right. why on earth do people grow out of that?! in a sane civilization they’d be worshipped as gods

After federal troops forced a fugitive slave named Anthony Burns back into slavery in the 1850s, one Bostonian wrote, “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.” The abuse of power radicalizes people. We are seeing that now.

If you look at fascist participation as collective make-believe (ie people participate through vibes and suspension of disbelief instead of being convinced by evidence and reasoned argument), mockery can be a way to break up the play-act and spoil the game for the participants.
This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
one of the most effective weapons we have against fascism is mockery, especially when its really funny

No one's talking about this much, but grocery stores in rural America are in trouble. I found out last night that the grocery store in my small town is the last one still open in my county. The largest town in the county is without a grocery store. Please shop local!

what this should make clear to everyone in this country is that it does not matter who you are, there's no "it could never happen to me"

you can be a white woman who drives around with stuffed animals in her car, and they will still kill you in cold blood and call you a domestic terrorist

The anti-vax crowd is cheering while their children will be sacrificed not to illness but to the military industry. This administration knows what things their base will cheer for and what that cheering will conveniently cause them to ignore.

Look at the tip of his tail!!!

I got a new kitten today and he is TERRIFIED. I'm starting to think that the shelter naming him "Chicken Parm" wasn't 100% accidental.

We're keeping that name, tho.

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.
