Watched Planes Trains and Automobiles last night with mom for the first time. Then I looked up when the AirTrain to JFK opened (2003) and found LaGuardia doesn't have subway access. So I guess taking a cab from Manhattan really was the easiest way to get to an airport in the late 80s.

Mood: do you even have a chronic illness if you don't keep a running commentary of your flare as a note on your phone?

(I don't really have a symptom tracker app, don't need it 90% of the time)

In other words: ow.

Listening to some Murray Gold's Doctor Who music... Since I can't stream any Modern Who. Disney won't release the UNIT special until sometime next year.

Related: extra tired today but I did go to bed at 11:30 and had my alarm set for grocery shopping. Market Basket with mom at 8:30 was extra hopping with the holiday. I need to buy wine for my aunt who's hosting us. And I found a little christmas cactus - she literally just moved a couple months ago.

Yesterday after dinner I was thinking I need to read, do PT, and meditate. Then at 8pm my roommate texted me they were watching Wicked in preparation for part 2... Did alphabets on the couch while watching to keep the streak (now 18). Used a 5 minute body scan on the app to keep that streak (31)

Finally saw Wicked thanks to my roommate. They're seeing part 2 tomorrow and wanted to rewatch it.

Yesterday I went to CVS + Trader Joe's at lunch. Maps says that's .8 mile walk round trip. I bailed on TJ's when I saw how long the lines were but then went out again at night cuz I desperately needed sugar.

About a mile and a half without a crutch.

Today I walked a mile at lunch without a crutch.

So far, Chanel has raised $21,747. In the meantime, she's often been confined to her neighborhood due to lack of transportation. I know there's a lot of need out there, but please consider helping her and her mom afford another wheelchair van. Mobility is so important for everyone.

Saw a PA at my GI's office on Tuesday. I was on a every 6 month visit schedule. But this summer a #crohns flare crept in. It's a much slower flare than the last one in 2016. Way more pain. I had to switch from brand name humira to a bio similar and the pain started just before I had to switch.

Just finished The Lost Reliquary. Really good. I know there's a sequel in the works. I wanna read it now 😅

Still gotta take it slow, listen to my body. So I can walk to the grocery $tore but I put an order in through the app and I'll Uber back home (as much as I feel guilty requesting rides for less than a mile)
November 15, 2025 at 4:44 PM
I took the T for the first time in 5 weeks Thursday. #mbta. Out of curiosity I went through all the ubers I took between 10/9 and 11/13 and added them up. Including tips, I spent the equivalent of a zone 6 monthly commuter rail pass.

Still watching Grey's Anatomy. 6 weeks back and they're already on winter hiatus. At this point I'm too invested to stop, and then catch up for whenever they announce the finale.

It's not at the point of hate watching at least. But I'm rolling my eyes more and more these days.

Argh. I participated in a project that has a celebration event tonight and I have to decide whether I want to make the trek to Southie. Where with traffic ubering is about the same time as the T.

I know if I don't go I'll have some FOMO but I don't know if it's enough to force myself to go.

So, listen, call Schumer’s office no matter where you live, no matter if you’re registered to vote. Leave a voicemail that says if Senate Dems cave without an ACA premiums fix, you will never vote for or donate to another Senate Democrat as long as he is Leader
Call them:

Schumer (NY)

Booker (NJ)

Can you call Chuck Schumer right now? No matter where you live, can you take a few minutes and tell Schumer that if Senate Democrats cave you will not support Senate Dems as long as he is leader?

Skipped the compression socks yesterday. Not 100% sure if I was more uncomfortable as a result but I'm wearing a pair today. And I have a pair for the car ride home tomorrow.

Back up in Maine. I've received feedback on the novel. I think the best way to describe the vibe is folks can tell I was a track changes hoarder and the document is more like a house with renos and additions tacked on.

Need a new document to start fresh. Or could find another idea to work on.
But here's the light fixture I always take a photo of at the start of our (super casual) writing retreat

A (tongue in cheek) existential crisis: is 37 still mid 30s or late 30s? 😜

Doesn't matter much to me I never feel my actual calendar age, I always feel a few years younger.

This birthday/election cycle has been the least stressful one for me in years, probably since 2019. It would have been different if Michelle Wu's challenger wasn't a billionaire carpetbagger trying to cosplay as "the common man" and stayed in the race for the general.

Heading to the office for a few hours before PT today. I'm using uber and bringing my crutches. MGH PT is a half mile from the office... down super steep Bowdoin Street.

I don't have any restrictions from the surgeon, but I think having the crutches when I know I'll be walking will be a good idea.

Quirks of an older house. There is no overhead lighting in our front room. I'm too comfortable on the couch to move. But at least I got 25 pages into a new book before the light got too dim.
November 2, 2025 at 9:51 PM
I have my "going out in public" sweats and my "not leaving the house" sweats.

Not sure how long I'm supposed to keep wearing compression socks after I get my sutures out so I bought some from Bombas. (15-20 mmgh). Seeing the surgeon again on Tuesday.
