Just got to say the sentence, "I eat lunch with these ducks all the time, they'll mind their business." To a complete stranger today.

Kurzgesagt 2015:
-Look how crazy gravity actually is!
-Let's go into a black hole!
-Can we build a space elevator?
Kurzgesagt 2025:
-The world is ending because the poor won't have 10 children each.
-It's actually good to accept Nazis on social media.
-We should all do drugs.

🏺 An extremely important article from @morganvl.bsky.social about archaeology’s complicity in the current genocide of Palestinians and why archaeologists - and the organisations that claim to represent them - must speak up and refuse to stay neutral. www.aljazeera.com/opinions/202...
Why archaeologists must speak up for Gaza
Archaeology is often a mechanism of power. As such, its scholars have an obligation to speak up against oppression.

question for archeosky 🏺
my mate James Flexner (too smart to be v online) excavated this very distinct piece of transfer ware at a 19th c site in East Polynesia. despite being a sherd need, he's been unable to identify the original pattern. anyone recognise it?

The Académie Française pushing to replace watersport with "control of the piss" was not on my bingo card for today.

If you want to know more about the Ahnenerbe (the Nazi "heritage" research institute conducting archaeological work, incl. Atlantis stuff), read Pringle's book. If you want to know more about pseudoarch in among the more contemporary far-right, I wrote a little something about it. 🏺

And don’t y’all dare (to continue to) abandon us. Many of the things you love about the U.S. were born, built, and fought for in Mississippi. There is no path forward without us.
Please don't forget there are queer folks in Mississippi
Please don't forget there are black folks in Mississippi
Please don't forget there are disabled folks in Mississippi
I hate this state a lot, but just-
Yeah

the few good jokes in the replies aside, this sucks & should be seen as a canary in a coal mine for other states
“fuck mississippi because red state” counterpoint: eat shit; there’s hella good & cool folks there & in other red states; mississippi maga isn’t known for their bsky presence either

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.
While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

Is it a purity test to meet these criteria:
- committed to protecting the rights and well-being of marginalized people
- acknowledges and condemns genocide and refuses to aid it
Is it so much to ask for? Now, when we have time to ask for it? How many refusals do they get before an election?

I am so serious about this btw, wrote the first draft about a year and half ago and revisited it and I really like it.
Never had fiction published before tho so I'm unsure of the whole, process of who wants what.

Anyway I'm also shopping around for a pub to submit a kitchen sink drama told in the second person about a guy driving home to deal with a house his father left him that doesn't legally exist. ~8k words. Lemme know if you think there's a place that might want it.
