@bsky.app Ok. New theme from Bluesky makes everything less legible in dark mode because the deep almost benthic blue accent color. And the new icon is ugly. It does not have a dark version on iOS. Fail much.

our paper rebutting claim that Raman can distinguish enantiomers is finally out onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/... Never accepted by Spectrochimica Acta A despite 2 positive reviews, withdrawn after 2 months... while the flawed paper is still on their website #chemsky #researchintegrity 🧪
May Two Enantiomers Have Different Raman Spectra?
May two enantiomers have different Raman spectra? Of course, no! despite what was claimed in a recent publication (Kopec et al., Spectrochim. Acta A 341 (2025):126423). In keeping with the theoretica...

The reality in science is that creativity is not treated as a core skill while hypothesis testing is, and that is the imbalance that we want correct through the Night Science Institute!

@bsky.app has started its downhill journey to X-fication. Domain #verification prevents anonymous malicious actors because a domain name is identifiable at ICANN. #Bluecheckmarks that can only be given by select entities (including Bluesky) inevitably creates 2 classes of users. This is a fail.

Every wet lab uses spreadsheets.

But sloppy spreadsheets waste time, break code, and can cost you $450,000 a year. Here's how to fix that 🧵

@leising.bsky.social I saw with much interest your interview on DW over the skewed power structure in academia. I wanted to ask you if you are aware of specific oversight bodies that exist in order to regulate, mitigate individual cases.

I use an app called @obsidian.md to keep my notes from meetings, conferences, as well as a lab book. I used to think it is a pretty niche program. But seeing their enterprise supporter list , it obviously isn't : obsidian.md/enterprise/
I just wish their pricing for sync and publish was reasonable.
Meet the teams that trust Obsidian
Organizations that demand the highest security trust Obsidian. Their teams rely on Obsidian to think more effectively and keep total ownership over private data.

I just spent the whole day wondering why my email was filling up, why it was so quiet at the institute. Talking with the wife was the first time I realised when she informed me that it was a Saturday, not a Friday.

Is the solution to #gallstones simply increasing water flow through the #biliary system? A paper by Huo et al. shows increasing activity of #aquaporins may help. But the answer may not be so simple - we wrote an invited editorial at the Journal of #Hepatology authors.elsevier.com/c/1kEtjcOnAU...

I don’t get the whole corporate “Alumni” thing. I don’t care if you’ve worked at McKinsey, Google, Goldman Sachs, or anywhere else. I care if you can do the job and do it well. That's it.

I’ve met plenty of name-brand idiots and even more no-name geniuses.

Something to keep in mind... I'm happy to use English as my work language, but frustrated by how this is often a blind spot among supporters of inclusivity stuck in a US-centric view of research
Non-native English speakers need 50% more time to write a paper

When they do, they face a 2.5 times higher chance of being rejected because of language
