I can’t remember the person who, when I explained why I’m always so nervous about talking to people, responded “you make it sound like you have no control over whether or not you’re a bad person.” I still think about this idea.

Turning this off removes all the different inboxes and sorting and labels and you can't use them unless you turn AI back on. I am seething a little that I'm being forced to comply with a technology I do not want to be using.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."
There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.
