I will be debuting two new zines at Pittsburgh Zine Fair this Sunday the 19th.

Fireworks is a short fiction piece set in the hours proceeding a con. Theriansploitation, something like that.

Recent Sculpture documents a series of works I produced for a former employer.

Oh hey it’s #portfolioday!

I’m Miles, a Dutch-American photographer who specializes in photo projects, storytelling, documentary-, and art photography.

I love collabs, and you should definitely consider working with me for your next project!

A screenshot of my website, showing the personal projects I’ve worked on. A colorful photograph of an airport from inside the terminal building, with reflections from the window interacting with the scene. A photograph of the new years dive in the Netherlands, with multiple people on the cold beach. A man in the center does a handstand on the wet sand. A photo of a fursuiter relaxing in front of two large industrial fans. Their paw is removed and they are using their phone.

Lotta conversations with non american furries who've said the same thing, that their cons (and to a lesser extent their art) are cosplaying whiteness.

I posted this after watching flaush's piece for room party again

Yeah ive seen people shaming teens preemptively for that which is a very backwards way of approaching it
bigrickystyle.bsky.social
well, i'm worried about where it's going.

the people with money and/or influence. con staff, event organizers, web masters, makers, big suiters, commissioners

for an example, i like seeing ESL artists publishing work in their first languages instead of/alongside english translations. that's a small and actionable way to divest!

i'm really thinking about trying to get more involved at cons, cus small decisions like who gets let into / excluded from a dealer's den can have some substantial impact on the state of things.
bigrickystyle.bsky.social
yeah we should definitely not confuse a state-of-affairs survey for a description. we should never do things only because they were done before, we should understand why we did those things then and frame them against now.

anthro ephemera does not appear from the ether. furries are either on the pintrest board or on the staff of every big budget anthro property being made right now. we are bring produced, and it is important to figure out to what specifications we are being made.

with the hot topic tees especially, i think a lot of people assumed that they were AI or by contracted designers with no connection to furry because it's easier to stomach, but i think it's much more likely that those were made either by furries or with direct input from furries.
bigrickystyle.bsky.social
yeah u right, misspoke a bit.

we currently Do have an assumed set of essential qualities of what furry is, which are able to proliferate because they're left assumed. writing them down would reveal them to be inadequate in immediately obvious ways, and we would be encouraged to adapt and mold them

conventions and the fandom at large are sadly already this! rly wish u could've made it to Pawstral, every chilean furcon i've gone to (and the groups that organize em) are 100% jus poc pretending to be gringos for the sake of like, relating to/replicating what white people are doing over there

in the wake of this wave of horrific violence against queers, there will be an attempt to launch an Israel-like queer nationalist project across America and Europe. we must be prepared to nip this in the bud.

it is of extreme importance to establish Furry's essential qualities for this reason, not just wishy washy philosophical intrigue. Furry is exciting, and non-Americans should be able to engage in its technologies without necessarily fetishing our cartoons, and more pressingly, our infrastructure

we will need to figure out how to prevent The Furry Convention from becoming a colonial soft power project
