UNCANNY X-CERPTS is a (more or less) weekly trip through the history of X-Men!

Recapping/Analyzing/Shooting the shit about 400+ issues and counting!
UNCANNY X-CERPTS
Updates Mondays... and now some Thursdays! Reflecting on the entire sordid, endearingly bizarre history of the Uncanny X-Men from the very beginning. Follow on Bluesky <a href="https://bsky.app/profil...

I'd have been quite all right if Sinister's apparent death at the end of Inferno was the end of him, and the whole tangled metastory that sprang up with him, Apocalypse, Cable etc kind of suffocates the X-Men in the 90s.

For what it's worth, this doesn't make any sense, but it's cool so you just gotta let it be.
Cyclops firing his eyebeams out of the spaceship via a ruby quartz dome is so cool.

I didn't mention it then, but the Blackbird vs. Sidran Hunter battle a few issues ago has it that the Blackbird's windshield is now treated so Scott can blast through them without destroying them.

My favourite Dave Cockrum drawn issue!

I liked the animated version of Beast that was cultured and always pulling literary quotes, but at some point the comics decided he should be the embodiment of what it's like to be obsessed with science but have no background in humanities.

Apocalypse wants Nate Grey's body!

Wait, that doesn't sound right. I just mean he wants to be *inside* Nate.

Nope, still not it.

I struggle with phrasing in this week's UNCANNY X-CERPTS!

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

Yeah, it's gonna be ok.

Many years ago on Twitter, I hosted a series of polls to determine a ranking for every Claremont Uncanny!

What do you think of the results?

Were you there, or do you merely wish you had been?

Feels weird to be rooting *for* Senator Kelly... 🤔
Sen. Mark Kelly has released a statement.

"If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won't work. I've given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies..."

I never got around to reading this besides an issue or two that were perhaps beyond me at the time. I'd be interested to see if it holds up (despite modern feelings about JMS' work.)
Check out this write-up about J. Michael Straczynski's Rising Stars by Greg Orlando from the 1999 Wizard Fathom Special.

As someone who has never read Tomb of Dracula, that's interesting to learn.
Okay, a bit of special interest pedantry: This isn't how Dracula's aversion to religious artifacts worked, either in the original novel or in Marvel's Tomb of Dracula series. The faith of the person wielding it makes no difference.

I have more thoughts about tis skeet than can be contained in a skeet, but anyway Bullski is as usual right on.
FOUR ISSUES. No fat, no crossovers, no tie-ins. And yet it's an epic unmatched by any of its descendants and doesn't overstay its welcome, with the fallout mostly contained in Rachel's personal plots and Nimrod. Even something like HoX/PoX is TWELVE issues these days.

Today, in the world of freedom, the proudest boast is "Ich bin Herr Fahrenheit!"
“We will go to the moon. We will make a satellite, out of control. A rocket ship to mars. We will make atom bombs about to explode. We will burn through the sky at the speed of light. We will do these things and the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard. Don’t stop me!”

All of this was inspired, oddly enough, by The Twelve, and trying to imagine a story in which any of this Apocalypse stuff was conceived of from the beginning, instead of very clearly made up on the spot. (Poc doesn't figure in my ideas though... yet.)
