You gotta kick at the darkness til it bleeds daylight
while we are at it: regular reminder that in scotland, legally, both under older legislation and uncrc, parents do not have *rights* they have *responsibilities*. it's children who have rights.

"parents' rights" are as made up as "sex based rights" and for the same reasons
That MSPs are now openly saying stuff like this is chilling. "Controversial groups like LGBT Youth Scotland"? LGBTYS didn't need to be in my schools for me to be gay, but they sure as hell would have helped me avoid 9 years of fear and self-loathing if they had been. Despicable stuff.

I just don't need to know what the Telegraph has written about Dungeons & Dragons. It's a newspaper for people who are frightened of samosas.

yeah uh, the day i turned 18 (a time when everything was considerably less safe than it is now ftr!) i applied for a visa and moved across the atlantic. i think i called home maybe once a month.

maybe it's the parents not the kids who need to grow the fuck up here
People are very hard on young people on here, lack of critical thinking, lack of responsibility etc, and then you see something like this and it all makes a different kind of sense.

It’s not where we come from that counts, it’s about where we’re going.

Great to meet Afghan Scots children at Maryhill Burgh Halls and hear a lovely rendition of Robert Burns.

its fun that we can start playing the 'millennials are middle aged' game for gen z

the oldest gen z are pushing 30 so like definitionally a lot of them have careers and kids and mortgages (even if we culturally like to pretend that you're not an adult until 35 these days)
not sure what Gen Z has to do with a 43-year-old’s adaptation of a 52-year-old’s novel—and lest you think it’s just the hed, the piece calls Hamnet “mumblecore Shakespeare, conceived for the TikTok generation,” never mind that mumblecore predates TikTok by like 20 years

wouldn't it be nice to be a normal european country capable of having a bottle return scheme that includes glass

Scottish Labour MPs who were recently readmitted to the Party for voting against the two-child cap last year will be pleased to see it lifted, and the Barnet consequentials for Scotland must be passed on in full.

The Devil's In The Detail: First Thoughts on the UK Budget - Kaukab Stewart
There we have it, folks. After what feels like months of kite flying, pleading with industry, and income tax hokey-cokey, the UK Labour Government has announced its budget (after the Office for Budget...

i'm really curious about the threshold like that's £166/month, surely saving £167/month for your retirement isn't some unbelievable extravagance that must be cracked down on?
Do they really think we're stupid? What government is going to introduce such a tax mere months before the next election?

removing the two child cap cost two "gen z not having widespread cirrhosis"
From now on, when discussing the budget, please use “is this measure bigger than the cost to the exchequer of gen Z drinking less” as your metric for assessing whether something actually raises or costs a significant sum

i can't stop thinking about this - it got cancelled because of threats over the inclusion of a story about the difficulties syrians face at the turkish border

because famously the christmas story has nothing to do with a middle eastern family far from home with nowhere safe to rest
Scottish school cancels Christmas play after ‘racist and abusive’ messages

Show at Cauldeen primary school in Inverness had included a scene explaining hardship faced by Syrian refugees

i've never even heard of persimmon pie and now i feel the intense need to make one wtf
the list of best pies, and this is not debatable, goes:

1. key lime
2. lemon meringue
3. cherry
4. pumpkin
5. persimmon

people who disagree deserve to be interned for the rest of their natural lives in an underground prison camp

lifting the two child benefit cap would only cost about as much as they're spending on keeping fuel duty down btw
When can you declare an emergency over?

The 5p “emergency” petrol tax cut was introduced in March 2022, to offset a spike in prices

They are now about 30p down on that month, & about 50p down on the absolute peak

ok but genuinely i hate this milkshake tax business because you *know* it's just going to result in an occasional wee treat being replaced with some vile concoction of stevia and aspartame just like you can't get proper irn bru anymore
The removal of full-fat Irn Bru was genuinely the biggest violation of inalienable Scottish rights by a Government in London since the Edward I sacked Berwick
on the sugar tax my beliefs are genuinely libertarian in the commonly understood sense: i dont believe in such a profound infringement of my rights just because of 'public health concerns'

is this... true? because canadian supermarkets are wildly better than uk ones in my experience unless you're talking about a big waitrose in a well-off bit or a newer m&s foodhall
on the other hand UK supermarkets are *so much* better than US ones at this point. Just night and day in terms of quality, range, accessibility, and price.
